Meghan McCain Throws Tantrum Over New COVID Restrictions on ‘The View’: “This is Stupid, I Don’t Want to Wear a Mask Anymore”

As reports of the Delta variant are on the rise and masks make a re-entrance into society, one host of The View is growing more and more irritated. After her so-called “hot vaxx spring and summer,” Meghan McCain is not ready to sport a face mask again. On today’s episode of the ABC talk show, McCain whined about the lack of personal freedom as safety mandates are reinstalled around the country.

During hot topics on The View today, the ladies were discussing the lack of vaccination and mask-wearing as Delta variant numbers climb. While co-hosts like Joy Behar and Sara Haines suggested possible fixes to the rise in cases, when it was McCain’s turn, she made it clear that her stance would differ.

“I have a whole different take and perspective on this,” McCain began, “which I’m sure you’re surprised at, Whoopi.”

After starting out on a rather tense note, McCain talked about the return of mandates in her home of Washington, D.C., saying that “if D.C. isn’t good enough at any of this, I guess no other state will.”

“I think at this point, following the science is important, but I guess that having this low level of deaths and this low level of—” McCain said, cutting herself off to get to her main argument. “Look, I think this is stupid, I don’t want to wear a mask anymore.”

But, McCain clarified, she will wear a mask — only because ABC mandates her to do so.

“I had always been really trepidatious about what the future held, because I felt like I had been, if not lied to — if that’s too extreme for all of you — just been given wrong information that was just amended and amended throughout this entire pandemic,” McCain said. “America is mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sick as well as having the virus of COVID.”

Then, McCain made a prediction that we’re going to start seeing “a completely divided America.” On one side, the co-host claimed that there will be folks who are willing to take risks to “live in a state that is freer,” avoiding these new restrictions. On the other, “in places like D.C. and New York and California,” McCain says there will be mask mandates “forever” and a new lockdown.

“The question I have for you ladies is: how comfortable are you going back into a studio with an audience of people with these variants going around?” McCain said, referencing the fact that The View reportedly plans to return to the studio soon. “If the world is really getting this dangerous, it’s a question that you guys are going to have to answer going into the future about what’s going to happen on this show, among everything else.”

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin was next up to bat, and decided to drive a dagger right into McCain’s temper tantrum. Getting personal about the matter, Hostin talked about the loss of her in-laws to COVID and how important it is to follow guidelines.

“Our family was hit in such a way that we are still in deep grief,” Hostin shared. “I have to say that I am really disappointed at the rhetoric of: ‘I don’t want to get vaccinated because I want my personal freedom. I don’t want to wear a mask because of my personal freedom.’ Well, what about my family’s freedom not to have someone else get sick of this and die?”

Hostin rounded out her argument against McCain with a call for a greater understanding of public health and responsibility to protect each other.

“You don’t have the freedom to kill your fellow American,” Hostin concluded. “You don’t have that freedom.”
