Will There Be A ‘Jungle Cruise 2’? What Does The Lack Of An After Credits Scene Mean?

Warning: This post contains mild Jungle Cruise spoilers. Read at your own risk!

The last time Disney turned one of its theme park rides into a movie, it ended up with at least a five-film franchise. (Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is supposedly on its way.)

Whether Jungle Cruise, which is now playing in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access, will follow the same lucrative path remains to be seen. The movie, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, does not explicitly set up a sequel. There is no Jungle Cruise post-credits scene, and while the plot is confusing, it does get wrapped up—The Rock and Emily Blunt kiss, the conquistador ghosts are defeated, and Emily Blunt’s brother (Jack Whitehall) tells off the sexist Cambridge association. Then Emily Blunt teaches The Rock how to drive, and it’s adorable. All’s well that ends well!

But will this lovable trio return for another adventure? Here’s what we know about the possibility of a Jungle Cruise sequel.

IS THERE A JUNGLE CRUISE AFTER CREDITS SCENE?

No. There is no Jungle Cruise post-credits or mid-credits scene, though there is some nice art of the cast members for you to enjoy at the beginning of the credits. Disney audiences have gotten used to a little teaser after the credits to set up the next movie, thanks to the Marvel franchise, but Jungle Cruise opts to send viewers home without a cliffhanger. What might this mean for a Jungle Cruise sequel? Well, here’s what we know so far.

WILL THERE BE A JUNGLE CRUISE 2?

There is no official word on a Jungle Cruise sequel yet. However, if the film does well in the box office and on Disney+ with Premier Access—where Disney+ subscribers can watch the movie for an extra $30—it seems likely that Disney would be more than happy to greenlight a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “There is discussion of a Jungle Cruise sequel,” but no other details have come forward.

In an interview with Collider, Jungle Cruise producer Hiram Garcia seemed open to the idea of a sequel, which he hinted would be a theatrical film, rather than a streaming film on Disney+. “I think the way we make these movies and the way we want to tell these stories, it’s definitely on the big screen,” he said, “but I think going forward, I think we just realize all things that start on the big screen are going to have a small screen component too.”

That’s hardly a definitive answer, but it at least sounds like there has been talk of a Jungle Cruise sequel behind the scenes. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
