‘Jeopardy!’ Audiences Don’t Know Who David Faber Is, but Still Say He’s “The Best Yet”

There’s a mystery man in Jeopardy!‘s life, and the fans have already fallen for him. David Faber, host of CNBC’s morning talk show Squawk on the Street, began his guest-hosting gig on the ABC game show last night (August 2). Even though audiences didn’t recognize him as well as they did with faces like LeVar Burton and Aaron Rodgers, they still gave him a warm welcome.

Faber actually does have some ties already with the show, bringing a bit of expertise to his one-week stint as host. Back in 2012, the TV personality competed in the Jeopardy! Power Players Tournament, defeating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dana Perino of Fox News. During his intro for the show, Faber touched on that experience, explaining how he was able to learn from Trebek in real-time.

“I am so excited to be here. As a financial journalist, I live in a world of facts, and what I love is that that’s what Jeopardy! is all about,” Faber said. “Having also played as a contestant with Alex [Trebek], I understand just how important it was to him that the players were able to perform at their very best. And I hope and intend to honor that standard as a guest host this week.”

After that, Faber was off to the races, reading off clues and meeting the contestants. Even though last night was his first time hosting, fans already think he’s got it all handled. One Twitter user even compared him to late host Trebek.

“Wait a minute… Where did David Faber come from?” another wrote. “This guy is a natural. It’s either him or Ken Jennings for permanent host.”

Faber will serve as guest host until this Friday, August 6. At the moment, only one guest host is set to follow Faber: American sportscaster Joe Buck. Sometime in the weeks to come, Jeopardy! is expected to announce the permanent host.

Jeopardy! airs weeknights on ABC at 7/6c.
