Netflix dropped some brand new episodes this weekend — and by brand new, we specifically mean Brand New Cherry Flavor. The glossy horror-thriller takes place in L.A. in the ’90s, and follows a young filmmaker named Lisa Nova (Rosa Salazar) as she attempts to get her filmmaking career off the ground. The dreamy mystery has an original mix of hallucinations, sex, revenge, and kittens, but is that enough to earn it a second season? Let’s find out.

While she attempts to make her movie, Lisa encounters a sleazy producer Lou Burke (Eric Lange) and a witchy woman named Boro (Catherine Keener). It may get gross and violent, but with a horror-thriller, that’s what we came for, right? The series is based on a novel of the same name, but the actual episodes only delve into around 100 pages into the original story.

Will there be a Season 2 of Brand New Cherry Flavor?

Sadly, it appears there won’t be a second season of Brand New Cherry Flavor. Netflix is marketing the film as a limited series, meaning it’s a one-and-done scenario. But on occasion — and this has been happening more often, actually — these “limited series” get picked up for a second season. Just take a look at Netflix’s recent hit The Queen’s Gambit or HBO’s The White Lotus: both began as limited series, but have since been picked up for a second season.

While this looks like the end of the road of Brand New Cherry Flavor, we can’t say that it’s over with full certainty.

When will Season 2 of Brand New Cherry Flavor stream on Netflix?

Brand New Cherry Flavor was picked up back in November 2019, meaning it took just under two years to create in its entirety. Filming took place from November 2019 until March 2020 — so if Brand New Cherry Flavor were to be picked up for a second season, it would probably need around a year or two to get more episodes on Netflix.

Who will return for Season 2 of Brand New Cherry Flavor?

Mild spoilers here. Most of the key players like Lisa, Boro, and Lou are still around, so that would mean folks like Salazar, Keener, and Lange are still capable of making a resurgence in Season 2. As the show hasn’t been picked up for a second season, we don’t have any official casting news.
