‘Brand New Cherry Flavor’ Ending, Explained

Claims of a TV show being “like nothing you’ve ever seen before” are so common that the statement has become a cliché — but that’s actually true of Netflix’s new show Brand New Cherry Flavor. The gory, dreamlike Hollywood thriller is easily one of the most ambitious, out-there new series of 2021. But what to make of its big finale? If you’re wondering what happens in Brand New Cherry Flavor‘s wild ending, we’ve got you covered.

Rosa Salazar stars as filmmaker Lisa N. Nova, who moves to Hollywood in hopes of turning her provocative short film into a feature debut. As she struggles through exploitation and rejection, Lisa happens to meet producer-director Lou Burke (Eric Lange), who promises to help her make it big. When he turns out to be a duplicitous predator, Lisa does the natural thing — she recruits a witch named Boro (Catherine Keener) to curse him. Along the way, she ends up in a dreamy, grotesque nightmare scenario she never could’ve imagined. Wild, right?

We’ve got everything you need to know about the ending of Brand New Cherry Flavor — but proceed with caution, spoilers ahead.

What happens in the end of Brand New Cherry Flavor? Brand New Cherry Flavor ending, explained:

By the last episode, Lisa finds out that Boro is actually a 900-year-old South American who made a deal with the devil that allows them to inhabit hundreds of different bodies over the years, essentially rendering them non-human and genderless.

Boro is clearly fascinated by Lisa, who is revealed to have supernatural lineage (and perhaps a connection to Boro’s origins). The witchy figure covets Lisa’s body, but fails to successfully possess her. So they settle for Lisa’s ex-lover, an actress named Mary (Siena Werber), and pokes one of her eyes out. Yikes!

Meanwhile, Lisa gets revenge on Lou by… rendering him blind. Pretty much everyone else is killed by Boro or Lou’s goons, leaving only a handful of players standing as Lisa heads to Brazil in hopes of finding answers about her predicament.

Will there be a Season 2 of Brand New Cherry Flavor?

Unfortunately, there probably won’t be another installment of Brand New Cherry Flavor. Netflix is advertising the show as a limited series, which usually means it’s a single-season story. However, more and more limited series have gotten picked up for second seasons recently — just look at Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, which was supposed to be a one-and-done deal.

Basically, although Brand New Cherry Flavor Season 2 is unlikely, it’s not impossible.
