‘Mare of Easttown’ Star Evan Peters “Hopes They Do” Season 2

Evan Peters is ready for more Mare of Easttown. In an August 19 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor expressed his support for the Kate Winslet-led HBO series potentially returning for Season 2.

“I hope they do another [season] because I would love to watch it and see Kate do it again,” he said.

Peters received a supporting actor Emmy nomination for playing Colin Zabel, a young, out-of-town detective who becomes enamored with Winslet’s Mare Sheehan as they investigate a string of grisly crimes. Spoiler alert: In a heartbreaking twist, Colin was unexpectedly killed in Episode 5, as he and Mare conducted a rescue mission.

The actor joked that he could still find a way to appear in Season 2, suggesting they could “do a flashback, with Colin at another bar.”

Peters’ more grounded performance as Zabel may have been surprising to viewers who recognize his bold, notable work on shows like American Horror Story and WandaVision.

“I just love to go big. I think it’s so fun, and some of my favorite actors are very big actors. But this was an opposite direction,” Peters said. “We wanted to make [Zabel] very natural and real and sort of toned down.”

In the end, Peters is “grateful that people responded to the show the way that they did.”

Given Mare of Easttown‘s success, it’s no surprise many fans are clamoring for a sophomore season. The show’s finale became the most-watched episode on HBO Max ever upon its release. It went on to receive 16 Emmy nominations, including outstanding limited or anthology series and an outstanding lead actress nod for Winslet.

“Knock on wood we get to go to the event and celebrate with everybody and raise a glass to the show and everybody who worked so hard on it,” Peters added.

All episodes of Mare of Easttown are now streaming on HBO Max.
