‘DC’s Stargirl’: Meet Jim Gaffigan’s Thunderbolt in This Exclusive Clip

Want to hear something so cool? Tonight on The CW’s DC’s Stargirl, you’ll finally get to meet the magical, mystical extremely tricky being known as the Thunderbolt. When you do, he’ll have a very familiar voice: Jim Gaffigan. And Decider has your exclusive look at his arrival in this week’s episode, “Summer School: Chapter Three.”

Way back towards the beginning of DC’s Stargirl Season 1, in Episode 3 “Icicle,” we saw Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) steal a number of relics from the headquarters of the former Justice Society of America, including a strange, laughing pink pen. Courtney knew that pen was what her step-father Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) called the all-powerful Thunderbolt, she knew it was dangerous… But of course she tried to use it anyway.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps?) for her, nothing happened, and the pen sat on her desk like Chekhov’s gun, all season long. Now, we’ll finally get to see how powerful the Thunderbolt is, and who better (or worse?) to wield the power of the genie than Mikey (Trae Romano).

In the clip, Mikey is riding his bike on his paper route when he starts to see the words “So Cool” everywhere from a jogger’s shirt, to a street sign, to newspaper headlines. Fans of the comics know that the Thunderbolt can be unleashed if you just say that magic phrase (an English variation of the fifth dimensional phrase used in the Thunderbolt’s natural home of Badhnesia), and that’s just what Mikey does — releasing the imp.

“Who the heck are you?” asks Mikey.

“I’m your new best friend, and you don’t even know it!” says the Thunderbolt, shooting rays of pink electricity everywhere.

Surely, having a wish granting genie in the hands of a kid who regularly builds chocolate volcanos and beat last season’s villain by running him over with a truck won’t go wrong in any way. Right?

You can check out the full clip above, and watch to see if Mikey accidentally turns everyone into bugs or something when DC’s Stargirl airs tonight at 8/7c on The CW.
