With Clickbait, Netflix has crafted a thriller about internet crime and identity that’s bound to leave you rethinking everything you thought you knew about internet culture. While it’s honestly a one-of-a-kind experience, there are a few shows to watch if you fell down the rabbit hole that is Clickbait.
The series opens as everyday man Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier) suddenly vanishes, before a viral video is uploaded online that shows Nick holding up a sign that says, “I abuse women. At five million views, I die.” His sister Pia (Zoe Kazan) and wife Sophie (Betty Gabriel) embark on a twisty journey to find him, and end up questioning how much they really knew Nick along the way.
From cases of identity theft and missing persons to parables about how technology and our worst impulses can collide, here are seven shows like Clickbait that you can watch on Netflix, Prime Video, and more.

Clickbait co-creator Tony Ayres told Variety that the series was inspired by the idea of how “people can fall down these quite innocent rabbit holes, particularly with the internet […] And unleash surprising and sometimes tragic real world consequences.” Netflix’s anthology series Black Mirror takes that idea to the extreme. Each episode tells a Twilight Zone-esque story about the dark, unexpected consequences new technology can have on people. Watch out for recognizable stars like Daniel Kaluuya, Miley Cyrus, Bryce Dallas Howard, and more along the way.
'Orphan Black'

What if you had the opportunity to step into the life of a stranger who looks just like you? Orphan Black protagonist Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) gets that chance when a mysterious doppelgänger named Beth suddenly dies in front of her at a train station. Although stepping into Beth’s life is an exciting opportunity for grifter Sarah, she soon finds herself drawn into a larger conspiracy where a group of interconnected women’s lives are unexpectedly under surveillance. Come for the clever sci-fi twist, stay for Maslany’s Emmy-winning performance.

Clickbait explores the chaos that can ensue when your loved one is accused of a heinous crime that you never expected, and Netflix’s Who Killed Sara? has a similarly pulse-pounding premise. The Mexican series follows Alex (Manolo Cardona), a man who was convicted for the murder of his sister, a crime he didn’t commit. Now out of prison, he’s hellbent on getting revenge on his sister’s killer, and the shadowy figures who framed him. He, Pia, and Sophie should team up!

Based on the Harlan Coben novel of the same name, Gone for Good opens as a man named Guillaume’s (Finnegan Oldfield) girlfriend Judith (Nailia Harzoune) unexpectedly goes missing. In his search, he uncovers a secret that goes back generations. Gone for Good has the same family drama that propels Clickbait‘s twists and turns so well. Similarly, it focuses on one character each episode, examining the mystery from as many angles as possible.

If you were shocked that Nick’s predicament was inspired by real-life stories, you may want to check out the Netflix docuseries Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. The show unpacks one of the most infamous internet crimes in recent memory, in which a crowd-sourced online investigation into Canadian porn actor Luka Magnotta’s filmed kitten murders eventually helped expose his murder of Chinese international student Jun Lin. Don’t F**k With Cats expertly lays out how the internet has encouraged ordinary people to take matters into their own hands, and how horrifying online videos can find unexpectedly enormous audiences.

How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast) main character Moritz Zimmerman gives the Clickbait crew a run for its money when it comes to criminal tech know-how. The German show centers on Zimmerman, a shy high schooler who begins selling drugs in an effort to impress his crush. However, he gets more than he bargained for when he winds up in control of the dark web’s biggest drug empire. The increasingly bizarre ways he and his friends try to hide their side gig while balancing ordinary teen life make for an engaging, refreshingly light change of pace.
'Ringer'

There are plenty of mistaken identity thrillers out there, but most of them don’t star Buffy Summers! Sarah Michelle Gellar stars in Ringer as Bridget Kelly, who tries to take over her wealthy twin sister’s identity… only to find herself embroiled in murder plots and life-or-death mafia schemes. If the idea of facing off against anonymous adversaries in Clickbait intrigued you, you’ll be happy to know that Ringer explores similar themes in an earlier internet era.
