Who is Threatening Masha in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’? Top Fan Theories

When it comes to Tranquillum House, the wellness resort at the center of David E. Kelley’s new Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers, nothing is as it seems. For one, famed director Masha (Nicole Kidman) keeps receiving death threat texts from an anonymous stalker who seems to be trailing her every move. It seems like her and her nine wealthy guests are headed for disaster over the course of their 10-day retreat, but the question remains: Who is threatening Masha? Fans have plenty of theories.

Although Nine Perfect Strangers is based on Liane Morarity’s novel of the same name, this stalking storyline was invented for the TV series. Viewers know that Masha made plenty of enemies during her past in the corporate world, and an anonymous figure was angry enough to shoot her back then, inspiring her to become the health and wellness guru she is today.

However, the tensions rising between Masha, her current and former guests, and her employees are likely the source of her current predicament (especially since she’s being stalked all around Tranquillum, in locations that presumably only a guest or employee could access). Let’s break down all the potential suspects:

Who is Threatening Masha in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’? Maybe It’s Delilah

Warning: Major spoilers for Episode 5 ahead. For a while, Tranquillum employee Delilah (Tiffany Boone) seemed like the obvious suspect: She’s never been afraid to question Masha’s controversial methods, unlike her boyfriend and coworker Yao (Manny Jacinto). Delilah mentions that a late former guest’s family sued Masha over her questionable practices, which Delilah likely witnessed firsthand. Plus, the first four episodes allude to Masha having a secret affair with Yao. She seemingly had plenty of motives!

However, Episode 5 revealed a major twist: Delilah and Masha are actually lovers who have been having an affair behind Yao’s back. But could Delilah be double-crossing Masha, and using their intimate relationship to try and put an end to Tranquillum as they know it?

Who is Threatening Masha in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’? Is It Yao?

So far, Yao has been much more laid-back and trusting than Delilah when it comes to Masha’s work. However, there’s a chance he knows about his girlfriend and Masha’s affair, which could sting even more given that Yao was the one who saved Masha after she was shot. His calm demeanor could be a front!

Who is Threatening Masha in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’? Could It Be Connelly’s Family?

As Delilah explains, former guest Connelly’s family once filed a lawsuit against Masha and Tranquillum. The court ruled “no negligence” on behalf of the retreat, so it’s highly likely that Connelly died. Delilah pointed out that the family almost certainly still resents Masha, and although Tranquillum seems super isolated, it’s possible someone slipped onto the grounds and is stalking Masha.

Who is Threatening Masha in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’? One of the guests, of course.

Although Masha claims to have hand-picked each of the “nine strangers,” not all of them are exactly thrilled to be there. Lars (Luke Evans) is an undercover reporter writing about the resort and Masha, and he constantly makes snarky, doubting comments about her work. Although he seems to be falling more and more under Masha’s spell, he could certainly be a suspect.

Then there’s Carmel (Regina Hall), who comes into the retreat with a strong belief in Masha’s abilities. However, she’s suffering from rage at the dissolution of her marriage, suggesting she’s capable of more than her outwardly sweet persona suggests. It’s possible she’s suffering some sort of breakdown, and could be turning on Tranquillum’s leader. Regardless, Nine Perfect Strangers is on course for an explosive final three episodes.
