Kate Walsh Set to Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in Multi-Episode Arc

Paging Dr. Addison Montgomery! On Sept. 2, actress Kate Walsh revealed she’ll be returning to Grey’s Anatomy Season 18, sharing the news via an on-set video on the long-running ABC drama’s official Instagram account.

“Well, well, well, would you look who it is,” Walsh said in the video. “That’s right, my loves, Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey-Sloan Memorial hospital, and I’m so glad to be home again, joining Shonda [Rhimes], Ellen [Pompeo], and the rest of the incredible cast.”

According to Deadline, Walsh is set to appear in multiple upcoming episodes, although no further details about her storyline have been revealed just yet.

Walsh first joined the series at the end of Season 1, in which she was revealed to be Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) estranged wife in an iconic twist. After joining the show in a recurring role, she eventually became a series regular. By Season 3, series creator Rhimes created an Addison-centric spin-off called Private Practice, which Walsh starred on for six seasons. She’s appeared in a total of 59 Grey’s episodes up until this point, most recently returning in the Season 8 episode “If/Then.”

This casting news comes just weeks after it was announced that Kate Burton would reprise her role as Meredith Grey’s (Pompeo) late mother, Dr. Ellis Grey. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist star Peter Gallagher will also have a multi-episode arc as a doctor with close ties to Ellis.

Grey’s has welcomed back a slew of long-time fan-favorites in its past few seasons. A number of former stars reprised their roles on Meredith’s “dream beach,” last season, including Dempsey as Derek, T.R. Knight as George O’Malley, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan, and Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premieres September 30 on ABC.
