‘Cinderella’ Cast Gives Special Performance For James Corden’s “Crosswalk the Musical”

On Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the host revived his “Crosswalk the Musical” segment, this time welcoming the cast of Amazon‘s Cinderella musical adaptation; Camila Cabello, Billy Porter and Idina Menzel.

Corden presented the segment dressed as the fairy godmother, admitting to the camera that he gave Porter the wrong address because he’s “intimidated.”

“Billy Porter is the only actor I’ve ever encountered who is almost as talented as I am,” joked Corden.

An infuriated Porter eventually showed up to join Cabello and Menzel, blasting Corden for thinking he wouldn’t be able to find them and cementing that he’s “the only one that’s going to be playing the Fairy Godmother” therefore Corden can play “the rat” as he does in the film. Corden argued that it was a “charming” mouse.

The stars then changed into costume to represent their characters from Amazon’s Cinderella, stopping traffic on Beverly Boulevard to perform songs from the film while drivers waited for the light to change on the streets of Los Angeles. The cast sang renditions of songs from the film, including Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be.”

While most of the drivers appeared to be slightly annoyed that their commute was interrupted, some even got out of their cars to dance.

The modern take on the classic fairy tale is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Cinderella is played by Cabello, reimagined as an independent woman who is focused on achieving her dreams in fashion. The musical also features hit songs such as Madonna’s “Material Girl,” Queen’s “Somebody to Love,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” It also serves as Cabello’s acting debut.

The overzealous flash mob had all the props to complete their comical performance, dancing around cars in traffic, while Corden (dressed as a mouse) was thrusting his groin toward a car at one point while the cast was singing Jennifer Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud.”

He also dressed as an uglier Cinderella before Cabello emerged during another act where Porter, who plays the Fabulous Godparent dubbed “Fab G” in the film, turned Corden into an actual mouse. “Bibbidi-bobbidi bye bitch,” says Porter to the camera after casting the spell.
