When Will ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 6 Premiere?

Rick and Morty wrapped up its fifth seasos with 10 episodes filled with Gotrons, incest babies, and decoys. So what’s next? When will Rick and Morty Season 6 premiere?

Determining when a new season of Rick and Morty may premiere is always a daunting task. The show is notorious for long production schedules and unexpected delays. After all this is a show that technically premiered eight years ago but has only had five seasons. Wondering when you can expect Rick and Morty Season 6? Here’s everything you need to know.

Will There Be a Rick and Morty Season 6?

You can bet your pumbus there will be. Back in 2018 it was announced that Adult Swim had renewed its sci-fi animated comedy for an additional 70 episodes. This announcement came after the release of Season 3. Ten of those episodes became Season 4, and another 10 became Season 5. Assuming that Rick and Morty will continue to have 10-episode seasons, we can likely expect the final 50 episodes to be released over the course of five more seasons.

That’s a long-winded way of saying, yes. Rick and Morty has already been renewed through a possible Season 10, so Season 6 is happening.

When Will Rick and Morty Season 6 Premiere?

Update: We have an official premiere date. Rick and Morty Season 6 will premiere globally on Sunday, September 4. That’s right; this Adult Swim gem is getting the worldwide premiere it deserves.

This straightforward release date after 2021’s Season 5 is a blessing. In the past, the cartoon has had one of the most unpredictable release schedules of any show on television. Rick and Morty aired its first season in December of 2013. Roughly a year and a half later, Season 2 premiered. Two years later in April of 2017, the first episode of Season 3 dropped. That was followed by the longest wait to date. The time between Seasons 3 and 4 was almost two and a half years, a delay that has made Season 5 feel like a dream. The latest installment premiered roughly a year after Season 4. Star Chris Parnell and the show’s creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have alluded that going forward the delay between seasons won’t be as long as it was between Seasons 4 and 5.

So what about other seasons of this show? Harmon also revealed to Decider that the team has been working on three seasons at once, which implies that the production timeline may be a bit shorter than what we’ve seen before. Also, thanks to a tweet from Cody Ziglar, we know that the Rick and Morty writers room wrapped Season 7 in August of 2021. Writer Heather Anne Campbell later revealed that they started writing Season 8 in May of 2022. That bodes well for a consistent release schedule.

How Is the Rick and Morty Season 6 Production Schedule Going?
