Why is Star Jones Back as a Co-Host of ‘The View’?

The View is saying TGIF with a new twist in today’s programming. After Meghan McCain departed the show last season, Season 25 is employing a series of new techniques to fill the fifth chair on the panel. So far, that’s included Republican politician and political commentator Mia Love, who has taken the seat for both Wednesday and Thursday (Sept. 8 and 9) episodes. Today, however, there’s a special treat in store for all diehard fans of The View: Star Jones is making a reappearance.

Former Congresswoman Love has taken The View by storm this week, wowing audiences with her controversial-yet-level-headed demeanor. She also spent yesterday’s (Sept. 9) episode tearing into Joe Biden’s COVID strategies, getting into a bit of a rift with the main co-hosts of the show. There’s never a slow day on The View. So, can Jones rise to her level? She’s already been a host, so we know quite a bit about what to expect already.

Here’s everything you need to know about why Star Jones is hosting The View today, how long she’ll be visiting, and who we can expect next on Season 25 of the talk show.

Who is Star Jones, and why is she hosting The View? When did Star Jones host The View?

Star Jones is one of the OG hosts of The View. She served on the panel with the original five ladies, discussing hot topics with Meredith Vieira, Debbie Matenopoulos, creator Barbara Walters, and today’s co-host Joy Behar. In her time on the panel, which spanned from 1997 to 2006, she also sat alongside stars like Lisa Ling and Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

There was a bit of drama surround her exit in the early 2000’s. When her contract was up, Jones gave an exclusive interview to People magazine stating that she had been let go: “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season… I feel like I was fired.” This information dropped a burden on Walters, and the two fought for quite awhile. Luckily, they got over their differences, and Jones has been a returning fixture on The View since 2012.

Is Star Jones the permanent replacement for Meghan McCain?

Not that we know of at this time. The View has yet to announce the permanent replacement for McCain, so they’re “taking a little time” to find the official host. In the meantime, we’re getting guest co-hosts as a replacement — and today’s special because it’s Flashback Friday.

Is Star Jones returning to The View forever? How long will Star Jones be a co-host on The View?

This is a one-time thing! Star Jones is co-hosting today and today only. We won’t see her next week; however, we will be getting another Flashback Friday star to guest co-host next week. Keep reading to find out what we know
