Yep, Those Are Two ‘Drag Race’ Icons on ‘Lucifer’

The year is 2021 and drag is everywhere. RuPaul’s Drag Race is snatching up Emmys and has spinoffs across the globe, HBO’s changing lives one drag show at a time with We’re Here, RuPaul’s filling in for Kimmel, and Drag Race alumni are popping up on TV shows all the damn time. You can now add Netflix’s Lucifer to the increasingly long list of shows with episodes devoted to the art of drag.

It was really only a matter of time before Lucifer got into drag. The show is a self-aware and campy romp with a knack for dabbling in other genres. The show did a jukebox musical earlier this year, and Season 6 also has an episode that’s a riff on WandaVision. Now there’s an episode where the dead body of the week is a drag queen named Fiona Fierce, and her colleagues are played by two icons of the drag world—nay, the pop culture world.

In “Buckets of Baggage,” the second episode of Season 6, Det. Carol Corbett (Scott Porter) is tasked with solving the murder of a drag queen named Fred (a.k.a. Fiona). Fred’s found dead with a stiletto plunged into his neck, thus leading Det. Carol to famous Los Angeles drag venue Hamburger Mary’s. This is where the Venn diagram overlap of Lucifer and Drag Race fans lights up like a neon sign. Det. Carol enters the joint and is greeted by none other than Katya Zamolodchikova.

This is a moment worth a big ol’ giddy scream. Katya’s a Drag Race fave, having competed on Season 7 and making it to the finale of the iconic All Stars 2. Truly, seeing Katya anywhere is a delight, especially on a show as appropriate as Lucifer. How appropriate? Just look at one of Katya’s signature RuPaul’s Drag Race runway moments.

Katya’s also the co-host of the hilarious and essential web-series I Like to Watch on Netflix’s YouTube channel. And just last year, Katya and Trixie Mattel watched and reacted to Lucifer.

From reacting to Lucifer onscreen to reacting to Scott Porter on the Lucifer set. We love that journey for Katya.

But Katya’s not the only queen on this episode! Det. Carol’s following a hunch that leads him all the way to Suspect #1: a drag queen named Busty Bazoongas, played by Drag Race royalty Bob the Drag Queen.

In addition to playing Busty, Bob the Drag Queen was the winner of Drag Race Season 8 and currently stars on the HBO docu-series We’re Here. Bob gets a lot to do in this episode, too! She performs “The Lady Is a Tramp” with Lucifer himself, Tom Ellis, and gets a dramatic, heartfelt monologue backstage. You want the range? Bob’s here to serve.

Like Katya, this also ain’t Bob’s only connection to Netflix. The Drag Race queen previously recurred on Netflix’s revival of Tales of the City. Oh—and Katya had a guest spot on that show, too! These divas are beyond booked and blessed.

For more of Katya, check out I Like to Watch on Netflix’s YouTube channel and UNHhhh on WOW Presents Plus. For more of Bob the Drag Queen, stream We’re Here on HBO Max and prep for the show’s return to HBO on October 11. You can also subscribe to Bob’s YouTube channel for content like makeup tutorials and Drag Race recaps.

To find out who killed Fiona Fierce, though, you gotta watch Lucifer Season 6 Episode 2!
