Where to Watch the Met Gala 2021: Time, Theme, and Who’s Attending

Fashion’s biggest night is finally back. After a 2020 hiatus, the iconic Met Gala is returning to New York City tonight to celebrate haute couture and inevitably provide plenty of extravagant red carpet moments courtesy of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

WHAT TIME IS THE MET GALA TONIGHT?

The 2021 Met Gala kicks off on Monday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m. ET.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THE MET GALA TONIGHT?

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET, E! will air coverage of the Met Gala hosted by Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown, E! News‘ Nightly Pop cohost Nina Parker, journalist Phillip Picardi, style correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, TV host Naz Perez, and stylist June Ambrose.

Throughout the event, they’ll interview celebrities and give updates on all the latest red carpet developments.

CAN I STREAM THE MET GALA?

Yep! Vogue is hosting the only official livestream of the event, which you can check out here. It’ll be hosted by actresses Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer, who will interview plenty of celebs themselves.

WHO IS CHAIRING THE MET GALA?

As always, Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour is hosting the Met Gala, accompanied by several high-profile stars.

Here are the 2021 Met Gala co-chairs overseeing this year’s gala:

  • Musician Billie Eilish
  • Actor Timothée Chalamet
  • Tennis player Naomi Osaka
  • Poet Amanda Gorman

Designer Tom Ford and head of Instagram Adam Mosseri are also honorary chairs alongside Wintour.

WHAT IS THE MET GALA THEME?

Tonight’s Met Gala theme is “American Independence,” which is meant to spotlight American designers.

“I’ve been really impressed by American designers’ responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity,” Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton recently told Vogue. “I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a Renaissance.”

WHO IS ATTENDING THE MET GALA?

As usual, get ready to see plenty of A-list stars descend upon the Met. Although an official list of attendees hasn’t been announced, the guest list is rumored to include familiar faces like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian, as well as newer attendees like TikTok star Addison Rae and YouTuber Emma Chamberlain.
