‘The View’: Whoopi Goldberg Schools Mary Katharine Ham About Met Gala Etiquette

The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg set guest host Mary Katharine Ham straight when it came to the 2021 Met Gala — and the outfit Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wore to the fete — on today’s episode of the ABC talk show.

While discussing the “Tax The Rich” dress that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wore to the event, Ham said, “There’s a nifty way to show who had the money and who didn’t [at the Met Gala]: Those folks who were rich didn’t have masks, and everyone else did.”

She referred to the Met Gala service workers, who were photographed with masks on while celebrities and attendees walked the red carpet without them. But according to Goldberg, who attended the event herself, that wasn’t entirely the case.

“Outside, we did not wear masks. When we went into that dinner, you had to wear the mask,” she said, adding that attendees were only allowed to remove their masks to eat.

Guests were also required to be vaccinated, a requirement driven home by Nicki Minaj’s viral announcement yesterday that she would be skipping the Met Gala because of its vaccination mandate.

As Goldberg joked, “They asked for everything but my mother’s DNA. They weren’t playing.”

Today was Ham’s last day co-hosting The View. In the meantime, a mysterious former co-host will join the table Sept. 17 for Flashback Friday.
