Actor and “National Treasure” Jack McBrayer Competes on ‘Nailed It!’ Season 6

The most brilliantly kooky baking show on Netflix is finally back! Nailed It! Season 6 premiered on the streaming service this morning, reuniting coach potatoes with the hostess with the mostess, Nicole Byer, and the master of confectionaries, Jacques Torres. Everything you love about Nailed It! is back, including the show’s trademark impossible baking challenges and one handsome stage manager named Wes. However Nailed It! Season 6 comes with one extra surprise treat: 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer visits the set to compete alongside normies for the golden chef’s hat!

When Nailed It! first premiered on Netflix back in March 2018, it offered a deliriously fun alternative to traditional cooking competition shows. Instead of rewarding experts in high-pressure throwdowns, Nailed It! embraced the absurd gulf between picture perfect confections and the limits of most people’s baking abilities. Namely, it got real. Adding to the madness were comic Nicole Byer’s hilarious commentary and the warmth of celeb chef Jacques Torres.

Nailed It! has since become one of Netflix’s biggest reality show hits, spawning international versions and celebrity crossover episodes. However it wasn’t until comedian Paul Scheer actually volunteered himself as a contestant that the show seemed to realize, “Hey, asking one comic to play against two normal people could be extra hilarious.”

Nailed It! Season 6 resurrects this formula by welcoming 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer to the show and I can’t think of a more perfect person I’d want to watch compete on Nailed It! Season 6. McBrayer pops up in Nailed It! Season 6 Episode 2, titled “Paranormal Pastries.” Introduced as both “actor” and “national treasure,” McBrayer immediately takes to the tasks at hand with his trademark mix of innocence and enthusiasm. McBrayer, of course, is best-known for playing NBC Page Kenneth on 30 Rock, a show that worked his childlike manners and quirky sense of humor to their most. Nailed It! does just the same.

Obviously asking celebrities to participate in a reality show competition is nothing new, but the way Nailed It! uses comedians as contestants feels different. So far, Scheer and McBrayer have earnestly tackled the challenges put before them. Their commitment to the show is not meant to be the joke. The joke is how much normal, amateur bakers flail in the face of these ostentatious challenges. And, furthermore, how baking ought to be fun first and foremost. If you can’t laugh and try and fail and learn…what’s the point?

McBrayer is the kind of comedian who understands this. It’s why his roles are infused with joy and weirdness. He’s not afraid to look silly; he’s not afraid to be on Nailed It!

Nailed It! is always a joy to watch, but including Jack McBrayer in the madness takes Season 6 up a level.

Nailed It! Season 6 is now streaming on Netflix.
