‘Jeopardy!’: Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings Will Rotate as Hosts Until 2022

Once again, Jeopardy! is buzzing in with guest hosts set to take the podium on the storied game show. Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik will host the syndicated series through the end of the calendar year, taking over from ex-host and executive producer Mike Richards.

After Richard’s brief stint as host concludes this week, Bialik will pick up next Monday (Sept. 20), and is set to helm the series through Nov. 5, Sony Pictures TV confirmed in a release provided to Decider.

Once Bialik’s stint as guest host concludes, she and Jennings will split hosting duties as their schedules allow. Jeopardy! has not announced Season 38’s next steps after 2021 comes to an end.

The news comes after former EP Richards was announced as the syndicated show’s permanent host, with Bialik set to host all of Jeopardy!‘s specials. After lawsuits alleging Richards’ harassment and discrimination on The Price is Right resurfaced and controversial comments made on a 2013 podcast also made the rounds, he stepped down from hosting. Later, he also exited as EP from both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.

Richards only filmed for a day in the studio — which, in Jeopardy! time, is a whole week’s worth of episodes. After his exit, Sony announced that Jeopardy! would re-introduce guest hosts, with Bialik set as the first guest to take the podium. Initially, her duties were only meant to last three weeks. Now, they’ll last at least seven weeks.

Both Bialik and Jennings took the podium amidst Season 37’s revolving door of hosts. While the pair fared well in the eyes of fans, both have received backlash: Bialik for her comments about Harvey Weinstein’s victims and vaccinations, and Jennings for his “ableist” past tweets.

Stay tuned for more updates on Jeopardy!‘s hunt for a new host. Jeopardy! airs weeknights on ABC at 7/6c.
