Sunny Hostin And Carly Fiorina Spar Over Texas Abortion Law on ‘The View’

The View‘s Sunny Hostin and guest co-host Carly Fiorina faced off over the issue of Texas’ restrictive new abortion law on today’s episode of the ABC talk show. During one hot topic segment, the panel discussed whether the law — which bans abortions at six weeks and allows private citizens to sue both abortion providers and anyone who helps a patient obtain the procedure — would hold up in court.

Fiorina, a former Republican presidential candidate who ran on a staunchly anti-abortion platform, started off by referring to herself as “perhaps the only pro-life person at this table,” before Hostin objected: “I would fall under the rubric of what’s traditionally called pro-life.”

Fiorina criticized the law’s extremity, particularly the fact that it “deputizes citizens.”

“I wish we could come to a common sense solution that a diverse democracy could agree with,” she continued, claiming that the Democratic Party policy’s position supports patients’ decision to get an abortion at any point during a pregnancy, which is also extreme.

“The Republican position is choice at no time, except when you don’t wanna take a vaccine that will help everybody in the country,” Hostin interjected.

“I agree with that!” Fiorina said. “Here’s my point: Politicians on neither side want this issue resolved. It is a great issue to bring voters out, to raise money. And yet, the majority of Americans know what a common sense issue is that we could all live with.”

Hostin added that the Texas law is not a true loophole, since it’s unconstitutional to go around suing people in other states.

“I dropped out of law school, but I remember. I think it’s called lack of standing,” Fiorina said, to which Hostin replied, “Oh, so you remember that before you dropped out.”
