Ted Lasso has been flirting with the dark side this season and this week’s episode takes us to a literal funeral. Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 10 “No Weddings and a Funeral” follows the AFC Richmond crew as they rally around Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) in the wake of her father’s death. Rebecca must deal with her hatred for her father’s philandering ways while also juggling the emotional responsibility of hiding her romance with Sam (Toheeb Jimoh), reminiscing with her mother (Harriet Walter), and trying to steal laughs with Sassy (Ellie Taylor). However what might really put Ted Lasso fans through the emotional wringer are all the ways the show just shook up its central ‘ships.

Sam and Rebecca start off red hot and end the episode cooled off! Sassy pursues Ted (Jason Sudeikis) again, but then Ted’s big win for the episode was being there for Rebecca. Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) just dropped an emotional atom bomb in Keeley’s (Juno Temple) lap! And Roy (Brett Goldstein) doesn’t know about it!!

So what does Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 10 “No Weddings and a Funeral” mean for the romances on the show? Let’s try to parse it out…

Rebecca and Sam are Done?? Is Rebecca/Ted Endgame?? What About Sassy? Or Dr. Sharon?? WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

This week’s episode may or may not have given the Rebecca/Ted ‘shippers hope once more. Even though “No Weddings and a Funeral” opens with Rebecca and Sam happily in bed together and even though it’s obvious they like each other, Rebecca decides to end the relationship before it can spiral out of control. Her issue seems to be that she wants to work on herself first. (Of course she also seems flustered by the age difference thing and the fact that he is her employee, so there’s also that.) Sam takes the break up with class and promises to still be waiting for her. So perhaps the two will renew their steamy romance in the future.

Then again, the most emotional beats of the episode were focused on both Rebecca and Ted confronting the pain their fathers caused them. Rebecca confessed to her mother that she hated her father because he had an affair. Ted reveals to Dr. Sharon that he found his father’s body after he died by suicide. Moreover, Ted is angry at his father because “he quit.” After confessing all this to Dr. Sharon (and getting a hug), Ted finally makes it to Rebecca’s father’s funeral. His presence shores up her confidence and he helps Rebecca deliver a poignant rick roll of a eulogy.

So Ted/Rebecca ‘shippers should be happy. After all, Sam is out of the way. But you know who isn’t? Sassy. The episode ends on Sassy walking away with Ted in tow and Rebecca’s sage mom noting that Sassy likes wounded birds.

Let’s just say equilibrium has been restored here for now? Unlike what happened with Roy/Keeley/Jamie…

Whoa! Is Jamie Going to Blow Up Roy and Keeley’s Romance?

We’ve seen Roy and Keeley struggle with jealousy, communication, and spending too much time together, but this week the two actually seemed to fight like never before. When Keeley tells Roy she wants to fertilize a tree when she dies and for him and the rest of her loved ones to eat the fruit from that tree, Roy rebuffs her. He even teases her. Keeley takes it personally (not realizing his reaction is based in his own trauma) and keeps Roy at arm’s length for the bulk of the funeral. That would be fine except…Jamie Tartt has re-entered the chat.

Jamie approaches Keeley during the reception explaining that he didn’t just return to AFC Richmond for a fresh start but because he’s still in love with her. Moreover, he has been working on himself in part to win her back. Keeley seems overwhelmed by this reveal and we’re suddenly worried that Roy and Keeley’s romance could be in trouble…

Except immediately after Roy apologizes and explains his nihilistic view of death has to do with the pain he felt after his grandfather’s death. He tells her he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and she embraces him, basically melting in his arms.

So what does this all mean? Especially after Roy and Jamie’s emotional embrace in “Man City”? That the Roy/Keeley/Jamie love triangle isn’t over yet… (Put a ring on it already, Roy!!!)
