This Epic Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon Fight on ‘The Morning Show’ Has to Be Seen to be Believed

Apple TV+‘s The Morning Show is a series of decadent pleasures. It’s full of beautiful, rich, and famous actors chewing on ostentatious monologues. Glittering sets staged with luxurious furniture. Oh, and insane shouting matches between fully grown adults. The good news is The Morning Show Season 2 Episode 2 “It’s Like the Flu” gives us all of those things in spades. Specifically with an epic fight between Jennifer Aniston‘s Alex Levy and Reese Witherspoon‘s Bradley Jackson.

The Morning Show Season 2 opens months after the chaotic end of Season 1, where Alex and Bradley decided to risk it all to air all of UBA’s dirty laundry on the live air. So what happened next? Apparently the newfound allies were torn apart. Alex left UBA to literally live in the woods with a dog while Bradley got a makeover and settled into her new gig as the Queen of “The Morning Show.” What could possibly bring them back together? The machinations of one Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup). Cory convinces Alex to come back and reunites the former co-anchors at a tense dinner party that ends with…the two women howling at each other in a hotel elevator bay.

The scene is wild. It’s full of screeching and pain. Moreover, it’s an acting tour de force from Aniston and Witherspoon that speaks to how both actresses understand that neither of their characters understand themselves.

The crux of the fight is both women feel they were the one more terribly wronged in the aftermath of Season 1. Alex was so broken down by the brutal revelations that she stepped away from her career, sought therapy, and lived in a rural luxury cabin. Bradley, on the other hand, felt betrayed by Alex. We learn that Alex waited a week to call Bradley and that Bradley is still smarting from the fact that Alex ran with her scoop on the air. Though the issue also hounding the two insecure women? Who is the star now? Is Bradley really the star of the show? Or is she still not enough? Does she need Alex to help her survive?

What’s fascinating is that The Morning Show doesn’t attack these questions with subtlety, but screeching. It gives Aniston and Witherspoon the space to show off their craft. And that alone is entertaining.
