Pack your bag for more hilarious Murder Mystery shenanigans over at Netflix. Today at the platform’s global fan event, TUDUM, the streamer announced an upcoming sequel to Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston‘s 2019 mystery comedy. Both stars are set to reprise their roles in the new movie.
At the moment, the plot for the upcoming film is still under wraps. Still, Netflix teased what’s to come from the sequel: “Grab your passport because Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are returning for another international adventure full of intrigue and hijinks.” What sunny destination might the couple head to next? We’ll have to wait and see!
In 2019, Murder Mystery was Netflix’s most popular title. When it released in June 2019, the film broke Netflix’s record for most households streaming an Original film in its opening weekend. The comedy was viewed by 30.9 million households in its first three days on the service, making it the “biggest opening weekend ever” for a Netflix Original film.
Sandler and Netflix have been in business since 2015, starting their collaboration with The Ridiculous 6. Other films include The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Hubie Halloween, and, of course, Murder Mystery. In addition, Happy Madison has produced 2018’s Father of the Year, and the upcoming The Wrong Missy. Last year, Sandler extended his deal by four more films with Netflix under his Happy Madison Productions banner.
“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery.
