‘Bridgerton’ Season 2: New Photos, Extended TUDUM Panel Reveal Behind-the-Scenes Secrets

Bridgerton hive, Netflix is keeping us fed! Just days after giving us a first look at the moment when Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) meets his match in Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) in Bridgerton Season 2, Netflix has dropped an extended version of their TUDUM panel…AND NEW PHOTOS! Yes, we get a sneak peek at the Sharmas attending their first ball of the season (with Adjoa Andoh‘s Lady Danbury leading them in) and at our dear tomboy Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) all dolled up and out in society at last. Moreover, the extended TUDUM panel reveals some fascinating tidbits, such as what the original ending of Bridgerton Season 1 was to be!

Bridgerton Season 1 told the steamy story of young Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) first season out in society. Now that Phoebe is happily married to Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the story shifts to her older brother’s love life. Anthony Bridgerton needs to find a wife and he has his mind set on young Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). The only problem is Edwina has a protective older sister who always seems to get a rise out of Anthony Bridgerton. In the Season 2 clip revealed during Netflix’s global fan event, TUDUM, we learn that Kate and Anthony will have a heated exchange outside a ball after previously meeting on horseback. Today we have a hi-res photo of that flirty encounter.

Netflix also gave us a first look at the next Bridgerton sister to be put out in society: Eloise. In Bridgerton Season 1, the independent second daughter of the family was allowed to put off entering society for another year. Now we see that grace period is up. Eloise’s hair is pinned up and her hems have been let down and she looks incredibly uncomfortable to be chaperoned at a ball with her mother (Ruth Gemmell) and brothers.

The final first look photo gives us a hint about who will be befriending the Sharmas when the family comes to London for the season. The Sharma sisters are being escorted by their mother Mary (Shelley Conn) and Lady Danbury. As we know from Season 1, Lady Danbury is respected, feared, and something of a matchmaker. In Season 1, she wanted to put Simon and Daphne together and succeeded. Will Lady Danbury get her way again?

Speaking of Bridgerton Season 1… One of the best parts of the finale was the reveal that Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) was actually the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown. During the TUDUM broadcast, Coughlan revealed that was a reshot ending and teased that she couldn’t reveal what the original ending was. In the extended panel clip above, we learn that Bridgerton Season 1 was originally going to end on the suggestion that Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen) was Lady Whistledown!!! For book readers, this would have been quite the twist especially considering the role Cressida plays in the Julia Quinn novel that finally does reveal Penelope’s alter ego.

Couglan explained that she thinks the change came when the writers started working on Season 2. “How do I say this without it being a spoiler? It’s very satisfying what happens with Penelope in Season 2. The end of the sentence.”
