‘Riverdale’: Mädchen Amick Teases New Romance For Alice in Season 6

Since Riverdale began in 2017, despite all other romantic backs and forths, there’s been one relationship that seemed destined for both destiny, and failure — sometimes simultaneously. That would be the decades long love between Alice Smith (Mädchen Amick) and FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), which seemed to start as a deep hatred, but ultimately turned out to be a high school romance stymied by circumstance that grew eventually into something much, much deeper.

That is, until Ulrich left the show towards the beginning of the currently airing Season 5 to pursue other projects, seemingly putting a nail in the FP/Alice (called Falice by fans) coffin. Still, fans held out hope that some day Ulrich would make his way back to the show to pick up Alice on his motorcycle, and ride off into the sunset… A hope that itself seemed dashed when a promotional picture for the Season 5 finale saw Alice and Archie’s (KJ Apa) Uncle Frank (Ryan Robbins) standing next to each other, smiling.

Is Falice dead, and Fralice on the rise?

“That’s a really good question,” Amick teased to Decider during an interview about this week’s upcoming musical episode. “I don’t know if I can completely answer, only because I don’t know what’s in [showrunner] Roberto [Aguirre Sacasa]’s head, but I will say at the beginning of this new season, there’s definitely quite a bit of some flirtation happening between Alice and Frank. So Fralice may be on the rise.”

This revelation might be a particular blow to fans of the couple, because the two biggest supporters of Falice were almost undoubtedly Ulrich and Amick, who seemingly loved discuss the ‘ship during interviews and panels. Nobody turn against Amick, though; even with this Frank wrinkle (Frinkle?), she’s still captain of the ‘ship.

“You know, I would say that I think Alice’s heart is always going to be with FP,” Amick said, when asked if there was anything that would calm frazzled Falice shippers’ nerves. “So, we’re all in this together, and we all are secretly rooting for the reunion of Falice.”

At the same time, though, with Alice reeling from the death of her daughter Polly (Tiera Skovbye), which was revealed in the previous episode, it might be time for the perpetually grieving character to have a bright spot in her life. And how better to find that bright spot than with the steady, helpful Uncle Frank?

“But, you know, Alice does need to move on,” Amick continued. “It’s been [seven] years since FP left. Don’t we want to see Alice happy?”

We certainly do want to see Alice happy. Though if you ask Riverdale fans, they might add, “…but with FP.”

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
