‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘House of the Dragon’ Teaser Trailer Reveals Dragons, Fire, and Blood

HBO unveiled the first teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated new drama series House of the Dragon today, as part of HBO Max’s launch in Europe. The Game of Thrones prequel will take place 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) went napalm on King’s Landing and soured the fandom forever. This series, however, hopes to course correct with an epic saga about kings and schemers, princesses fighting to be queen, and a whole lot of sex, violence, and dragons. It is, quite simply, a Game of Thrones spin-off.

The first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon seems to be narrated by Matt Smith‘s Prince Daemon Targaryen and it includes first looks at characters like Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), her scheming father Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and the arrival of House Velaryon onto the scene. Most importantly, though, we get to see young Princess Rhaenrya (Milly Alcock) all in black looking seriously at a (canonically covered in swords) Iron Throne as well as a glimpse of Prince Daemon brutalizing a rival knight in a tournament, fights breaking out amongst lords behind closed doors, and a look at a dragon.

House of the Dragon is based on parts of George RR Martin’s “history” book of Westeros, Fire & Blood, and was created by Martin and Ryan J. Condal. Beloved Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik (“Battle of the Bastards,” “The Winds of Winter,” “The Long Night,” “The Bells”) is also serving as an executive producer, promising that the thrilling vibe of his battle-heavy episodes will reign supreme in the new HBO series.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2022.
