Woman Crush Wednesday: We’re All About ‘Acapulco’ Actress Camila Perez

Happy October, everybody! Haunting season is officially upon us, and we’re kicking it off by recognizing a terrifyingly terrific actress as the new month’s first Woman Crush Wednesday. Today we’re celebrating an impressive up-and-comer in the entertainment industry who has churned out consistently great and dynamic work over the past seven years of her professional acting career, and who you can count on to do so even more from here on out. So, without further ado, give it up for your WCW, the captivating Camila Perez!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Camila Perez

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Perez stars as Julia in Apple TV+ Original title Acapulco, which premieres on the platform this Friday, October 8th. The bilingual comedy series was inspired by 2017 comedy film How to Be a Latin Lover and acts as a prequel for the original film’s main character Maximo (Eugenio Derbez), following a young Maximo (Enrique Arrizon) in 1984 when he gets the job of a lifetime at the most glamorous resort in Acapulco, Mexico. It doesn’t take long, however, for Maximo to realize that the job is far more complicated than he ever imagined, leading to all sorts of shenanigans and drama you won’t be able to take your eyes off of as your work your way through the 10-episode season.

Featuring the talents of Perez, Derbez, Arrizon, Damián Alcázar, Jessica Collins, Chord Overstreet, Vanessa Bauche, and more, Acapulco is a delightful new series that is already generating buzz amongst publications like ColliderTV Guide, and The Guardian, so be sure to do yourselves a favor and catch it as soon as it drops this week, only on Apple TV+.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Perez’s professional onscreen career began in 2014 when she played Lorena Madrid in an episode of CBS drama series Blue Bloods. Just one year later, she earned the role of Emma in short film El Mundo Más Allá before getting her feature film debut in 2016 horror film Pretty Fine Things. That same year, she acted in short film Amalgamation: A Good Day and TV comedy-drama movie Truth Slash Fiction before having a hugely successful year in 2017, acting in an episode of drama series The Path as well as in the films The Wilde Wedding and Who We Are Now before landing her biggest role yet, as Firefly in FOX crime-drama series Gotham. In the years since her time on Gotham, Perez has appeared in shows like Star, La rosa de GuadalupePower, Law & Order: SVUThe BlacklistSocial Distance, and A Teacher, as well as in films like 2019 comedy The Social Ones, 2019 drama-thriller Low Tide, 2020 drama The Drummer, and 2021 drama The Same Storm. With this diverse and depth-filled filmography already under her belt, we have no doubt that Perez has so many more exciting acting opportunities coming her way in the years ahead, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things that she will accomplish in the future!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: While we are not sure what’s next for Perez role-wise at the moment, you can at least follow her on Instagram in the meantime to keep up on the latest happenings with this week’s wonderful WCW!
