Dakota Johnson Struggles To Continue Awkward 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' Interview After Suffering A Major Wardrobe Malfunction: "Dakota, Your Dress Just Came Unhooked!"
From Jimmy Fallon to Ellen DeGeneres, Dakota Johnson has quite the history of telling talk show hosts off when she comes to visit. Drew Barrymore, on the other hand, came locked and loaded when Johnson appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show yesterday (Oct. 7). While discussing neighbors, parties, and more, Barrymore and Johnson had some good banter about a certain episode of The Ellen Show that went off the rails.
Back in 2019, DeGeneres brought Johnson on for an iconic interview that ignited a tense feud between the two over one birthday party invitation gone missing. In the interview, DeGeneres claims she “wasn’t invited” to Johnson’s birthday party, but Johnson snaps back: “Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen, you were invited.”
“You gave me a bunch of shit about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited,” Johnson said, adding, “I didn’t even know if you liked me.”
The internet quickly made this exchange into a viral, unforgettable moment in pop culture history. So when Johnson brought up her neighbors — the Kimmels, of course — not inviting her to parties, Barrymore grilled the actress on the topic.
“They’re amazing neighbors,” Johnson said, praising the Kimmels. “Except they have a lot of parties and they don’t invite me.”
“Is this for real?” Barrymore shot back. “You know, because people have gotten in trouble for claiming not being invited to your parties.”
After some intense silence as Johnson struggled out a laugh, Barrymore cut the tension: “That was amazing, by the way. Like, amazing.” Thankfully, the audience (at the High Line, where Johnson and Barrymore were filming yesterday’s episode) was overjoyed, applauding Johnson’s noble effort to stand up to DeGeneres.
Fans took notice of the interview, celebrating both ladies’ hilarious discussion about the awkward interview. “Dakota Johnson rules. Shes chaotic. Lies about loving limes and then bodies Ellen on her own show,” one Twitter user wrote in response to the clip.
