‘Smallville’ Reunion: Watch an Extended Cut of Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum’s 20th Anniversary Conversation

Even with a four hour plus long livestream, things still get cut for time. But thankfully, you can watch a full 20 minutes of Smallville stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum reminiscing about the 20th anniversary of the series in an extended cut of the conversation rolled out during DC FanDome.

First broadcast on The WB on October 16, 2001, Smallville went on to air for 10 seasons and 217 episodes, ending in Welling’s Clark Kent finally donning the iconic Superman suit for several incredibly brief moments in the finale, something I am not still bitter about all these years later, not even a little bit.

The whole series will be collected for the first time ever on Blu-Ray on October 19 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, so to hype up the fans (and in honor of today being the 20th anniversary), Welling and Rosenbaum (who played Lex Luthor) gathered to chat with host Tiffany Smith about the long legacy of the series.

Also featured? Some quick appearances by former guest stars, including Michael Cassidy, Jessica Parker Kennedy, James Marsters, John Glover (Lionel Luthor himself!), Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman, Laura Vandervoort, and Sam Witwer.

Last but not least, the panel concluded with a message from Kristin Kreuk, who played Lana Lang on the series but couldn’t attend the conversation in person. “We haven’t worked on this show for 12 years now,” Kreuk said. “And you both, and everyone were a huge part of my early adult years. When it came out, it was right after 9/11, it was a time when people were looking for heroes. On another level, it was a story, and is a story, and I think this is why it lasts… It’s a story about growing up.”

Not surprisingly absent from the panel? Allison Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan on the series, and was arrested for leading a reported sex cult called NXIVM. Yikes.

Smallville also starred Erica Durance, Annette O’Toole, John Schneider and many more. Smallville: The Complete Series 20th Anniversary Edition includes over 28 hours of bonus features originally released on the Smallville Seasons 1-10 DVD sets, and will be available on Tuesday, October 19. You can watch the DC FanDome panel in its entirety, above.
