‘Supergirl’ Says Goodbye With an Extended Tribute Featuring Cast Past and Present

After six seasons, The CW’s Supergirl is finally saying goodbye for good on November 9 with a two part finale that will wrap up the story of the Girl of Steel. And in advance of that sure to be emotional evening, DC FanDome celebrated the series with a panel gathering together cast from the past and present of the series.

Hosted by — who else — Melissa Benoist, who stars as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, the panel also featured Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, Mehcad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan, Chris Wood, and Peta Sergeant as they took a look back at some of the biggest and best moments from the series.

“I mean, It’s changed my life, this show,” Benoist started. “It’s been a joy, and seeing the way this canon and mythology affects people, and young girls, and our characters… It’s very meaningful.”

Other moments worth mentioning from the panel?

  • Rath, in full on green makeup as Braniac 5, calling out his favorite moment being Nair and Benoist singing “Africa” at karaoke.
  • Benoist talking about eating bacon wrapped bacon during Kevin Smith’s first episode directing on Season 2.
  • Chris Wood noting that his favorite “stunt” was eating 10 pancakes at once, and then getting called out by the rest of the cast on whether that is, or is not, a stunt.
  • Jordan talking about “Cloth Magic,” where the cast will put their capes up and then, for example, rapidly change places behind the cape with another member of the cast.
  • An emotional moment as McGrath recalls that, “I get a lot of letters from girls saying that until they saw Lena Luthor on TV, they didn’t think it was okay for girls to be studying science? And there are a lot of girls who are like, I’m now in my fourth year of engineering, and I have you to thank for that, and the show to thank for that, and it’s such a small thing, it seems like, but that’s part of a whole new life for them they didn’t think was possible, because of watching the show.”
  • Chyler Leigh following up with a story about a woman at Comic-Con with two daughters, one biological, one not, who lauded Leigh and Benoist for embodying that dynamic on screen.

The panel ends with Benoist calling out that she will miss playing a superhero, “when enough time has gone by, and I have some energy,” before the whole cast bursts out laughing.

You can watch the whole panel above, and Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
