Around the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (so basically, decades ago), Netflix released a little docuseries called Tiger King that promptly took over the internet. Almost two years later, it’s getting a five-episode sequel, with Tiger King 2 detailing what the show’s now-notorious big cat owners have been up to since they last graced our screens.
“When you thought you’ve seen it all, you haven’t quite seen it all,” an ominous opening voiceover teases.
Joe Exotic is still behind bars, but his presence can be felt throughout the Tiger King 2 trailer. “There’s an innocent man in prison,” he says over the phone. “Everybody from the zoo is out there making money, and I’m paying the price for every one of them people. If you give a damn, it’s time to speak up.”
“We have more money than God right now,” Jeff Lowe, who took over Exotic’s zoo after he went to prison, says in the trailer. In real life, the zoo was closed to the public last year and Lowe forfeited his exhibitor’s license, so there’s a good chance viewers will see that drama play out onscreen.
While Exotic’s rival Carole Baskin has reportedly distanced herself from the show’s sequel, the preview teases that her husband’s mysterious disappearance will still be explored.
Here’s the official synopsis for Tiger King 2: “With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with Tiger King 2 as newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners. Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.”
Tiger King 2 premieres on Netflix on Nov. 17. The series is directed by Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode.
