We knew this was coming, but it’s a bit surprising that it’s happening so soon. Today Paramount+ announced the first of its exclusive South Park specials. South Park: Post COVID will premiere on the streaming service Tuesday, November 25. With an outrage-inducing name like that (we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, people), there’s a lot of room to laugh.

Though this announcement was expected, not much is currently known about the new special. Paramount+ released a teaser for it, which featured one of the mountains of this quiet little redneck mountain town becoming the Paramount+ logo. After it completes its transformation, Cartman says “Oh, that’s pretty cool.” Yes, $900 million is indeed cool. Check out the teaser below:

But that’s not all. The new title will roll out with Paramount+’s release in the Nordics, Latin America, Australia, and Canada. And this isn’t the only South Park special of 2021. In the same press release, Paramount+ announced that the second special would premiere in December of this year. At the time of publication, the name and release date of this upcoming movie were unknown.

South Park‘s impending addition to Paramount+ has been one of the most shocking TV news stories to emerge this year. In August, Matt Stone and Trey Parker inked a massive deal with the streamer, promising Paramount+ 14 films for a cool $900 million. That’s in addition to the show’s renewal through Season 30 with Comedy Central.

As shocking as the actual numbers are, it’s not surprising that South Park would be a hot IP during a time when original content is everything. The series first premiered in August of 1997. But unlike other long-running comedies of this era, Parker and Stone’s crudely animated show has always managed to stay relevant. For the past nine years, the series has been cable’s No. 1 primetime comedy. According to Paramount+’s press release, fans have watched over 2.2 billion episodes of South Park so far in 2021 between the show’s linear broadcasts and streaming services. And since Stone and Parker were into online streaming before it was cool, they have more control over their show’s streaming rights than most creators. Basically, if you were worried about South Park, stop. Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman are doing fine.
