Sunny Hostin Shades Former Guest Host Condoleezza Rice for Insurrection Comments: “What Kind of Message Is That?”

During today’s episode of The View, host Sunny Hostin made a subtle dig at recent guest Condoleezza Rice, who made controversial comments about the Jan. 6 insurrection during her latest appearance on the ABC talk show.

The panel began by discussing President Joe Biden’s decision to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial nominee and former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe this week. To do so, Biden called out McAuliffe’s rival, Glenn Youngkin, for his ties to former president Donald Trump. While the hosts debated whether Biden calling out Trump in the midst of trying to pass his Build Back Better agenda was a good idea, Hostin argued that it was important to not let people forget events associated with Trump’s presidency — particularly the insurrection.

“You have to make sure that people remember, because people are not remembering,” she said. “In fact, we’ve had guests come on and say, ‘You know what? Jan. 6 happened, but we’ve gotta move on.’ We’ve had that happen, okay? People want to move on, and we can’t let people forget.”

The guest Hostin was likely referencing is Rice, who sparked tensions with The View‘s hosts during her Oct. 20 appearance when she appeared to defend Mitch McConnell urging Americans to “let bygones be bygones” when it comes to the Capitol Hill insurrection. “[McConnell may be referencing that] it’s time to move on in a lot of ways,” Rice said, adding that politicians should focus on “kitchen table issues” such as the price of gas and inflation, and move onto the next generation of leadership.

Hostin rebuffed her at the time, arguing, “I think it’s really politically expedient for Mitch McConnell to say, ‘Let’s move on, let’s move on,’ especially when the former, twice-impeached, disgraced president enjoys attacking [him]. But the problem is, the past will become prologue if we don’t find out what happened on Jan. 6.”
