It’s Kevin Hart like you’ve never seen him before: as a suspected murderer. Today, Netflix has dropped the first trailer for True Story, its upcoming limited series from Narcos and Narcos: Mexico executive producer Eric Newman. After this trailer, the wild world of comedy won’t seem quite so funny.

True Story will mark Hart’s first dramatic role to date, though it’s one absolutely colored by his own life. The limited series follows Kid (Hart), a world-famous comedian who makes a tour stop in his hometown of Philadelphia. One thing leads to another, and Kid loses the night while hanging out with his brother Carlton (Wesley Snipes). It’s only when he wakes up and cops start asking him questions that he realizes that murder may be on the table. Now that everything he’s built is in jeopardy, what will Kid do to save his legacy and himself?

“[Hart] called me out of the blue, I didn’t know him, and his pitch was simply, ‘I want to kill someone,'” True Story creator Eric Newman told EW during the project’s first look announcement. “He was calling the project, ‘Crazy Kevin.’ But I wasn’t at all drawn to the idea of Kevin as, like, Dexter or Barry. As I did some research on Kevin, I was struck by how ambitious he is, how vast his empire is, and it dovetails slightly with the theory that I’ve been cultivating for a long time, which is the common sociopathy in really successful people: I believe a lot of them are capable of killing somebody. And I certainly thought Kid as a character would kill to protect what he had built.”

Chilling. But you know what’s even creepier? The trailer for True Story. What starts as a high-energy night out after a packed comedy show quickly descends into chaos. There are panicked looks from Hart, nosy detectives, veiled threats, drawn guns, destroyed dressing rooms, and Hart in an orange jumpsuit. This thing is seriously packing Narcos‘ signature blend of high-octane energy. Check out the trailer above.

In addition to Newman, Hart will executive produce as well as Stephen Williams (Watchmen, Lost). Williams is also set to direct the first three episodes, and Hanelle Culpepper (Star Trek Picard, Kung Fu) will direct the final four. Caroline Currier from Grand Electric and Mike Stein and Tiffany Brown from Hartbeat Productions also serve as producers. The criminal madness will go down Wednesday, November 24. Now you know what you’ll be binge watching as you binge eat on Thanksgiving day.
