What happened on RPDR UK Season 3 Episode 5 ?

The week kicked off with the Reading Challenge, perfectly timed to catch Scarlett Harlett at her most plucked. But Scarlett’s very real frustration was no match for Choriza May’s winning wit. This week’s Maxi Challenge was the long-awaited Snatch Game. During the walk throughs, RuPaul suggested that nearly everyone trade the character they prepared for something completely different, leading Ella Vaday to play Nigella Lawson, Kitty Scott-Claus to play Gemma Collins, and Scarlett to play… Macaulay Culkin. Choriza May wisely chose to not impersonate Spanish Cher (??) because… why would she change from a character she knows (Margarita Pracatan) to… a version of Cher that doesn’t exist?

In the Snatch Game, Kitty Scott-Claus crushed it as Gemma, staying in character and being just a real hoot. River Medway also played a The Only Way Is Essex girl, Amy Childs, but she couldn’t keep up with Kitty’s Gemma. Krystal Versace and Vanity Milan both chose to play characters made famous by professional comedians, and they just didn’t deliver the jokes. Choriza did just fine as Margarita—not as well as expected, but the commitment and jokes were there. Scarlett screamed a lot as if she was in Home Alone, and Ella’s Nigella was well-executed and right horny.

On the Main Stage, category was Feeling Fruity! Choriza served a stunning Carmen Miranda look, all in tribute to the peach. Krystal served a stunning dragon fruit look… that was incredibly similar to the look she made in the sewing challenge. Scarlett Harlett thought she was giving lime but was instead giving lettuce. Ella had a well-executed watermelon gown. Kitty modeled a detailed Little Red Riding Hood / cherry tree look. River Medway cosplayed as a sad bowl of fruit, and Vanity showed off a lesser version of Choriza’s look.

When the dust settled, Kitty came away with her first win due to her fun Snatch Game and elevated fruit look, just edging out Ella Vaday. Choriza and Scarlett were safe, with the former’s stunning runway look and the latter’s committed Snatch Game performance keeping them out of the bottom. That left Vanity, River, and Krystal in the bottom—which all made sense considering none of them delivered in Snatch Game and two of them didn’t bring it on the runway; and Krystal brought it, but we’d already seen it. Ultimately, River and Krystal were deemed the bottom two—and Krystal turned it, sending River up the river.

Oh wait—that didn’t happen, even though every single viewer could see that that’s what clearly should have happened. Why? Because we watched the show as it was edited and presented to us… and then things went fully off the rails during judging.

Instead, Choriza was criticized for playing Margarita as one-note (even though Scarlett was praised for just slapping her face and screaming repeatedly) and they did not praise her exquisite fruit gown (even though a basic version was literally right there on Vanity). Ella won with a perfectly fine Nigella impression, even though the edit constantly reminds us that Kitty doesn’t have a badge—and she very easily could’ve won this week. And even though Krystal flatlined in the Snatch Game and served the same silhouette, Ru singled her out for praise because she’s… 19 and knows she wants to do drag?

Anyway—Choriza and River end up in the bottom and both are sent home because they turned out lackluster lip syncs to “Shout,” a song that should only be heard at weddings, if ever. This episode made no sense and was very, very frustrating.
