'The Creator' Comes to Digital, But When Will It Be Streaming on Hulu or Disney+?
The Marvel machine never ceases. This month’s new Marvel superhero movie is Eternals, which opens in theaters this weekend.
Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao, Eternals features an all-star ensemble cast that includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. Based on the Marvel comics of the same name, the story follows a race of immortal aliens who have secretly lived on earth for thousands of years.
Reviews of Eternals have so far been mixed, which might prompt some Marvel fans to opt to see the movie at home rather than in theaters. And given that it is technically a Disney movie, it’s reasonable to assume Eternals will be streaming on Disney+.
But when? Read on to find out what we know about when Eternals will be on Disney+.
IS ETERNALS ON DISNEY PLUS PREMIER ACCESS?
No. While Black Widow was released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ for $29.99, Eternals, much like Shang-Chi, is opening only in theaters this weekend. It seems that Disney is done with its COVID-prompted “Premier Access” releases, at least for now.
However, Eternals will eventually be on regular Disney+ for free. Read on to learn when that is.
WHEN WILL ETERNALS BE ON DISNEY PLUS FOR FREE?
Eternals will begin streaming free on Disney+ on January 12, 2022, about 10 weeks after the film opened in theaters on November 5. Disney announced the official Eternals Disney+ release date in a press release on Friday. The company did not specify whether Eternals would also be available to rent and buy on digital platforms.
Shang-Chi opened in theaters on September 3 and debuted on both digital and free on Disney+ on November 12, about 10 weeks in theaters. If Eternals follows a similar pattern, you will likely be able to rent or buy the film on VOD on January 12, the same day it will begin streaming on Disney+ for free.
