Kim Cattrall Cast As Future Version of Hilary Duff’s Character in ‘How I Met Your Father’

Kim Cattrall has joined a TV sequel… but it’s not the one you think. The Golden Globe winner has been cast as the future version of Hilary Duff‘s character Sophie in Hulu‘s How I Met Your Mother spinoff How I Met Your Father. It will be structured around Sophie telling her son how she met his father, like Ted Mosby did in the original series.

Sophie’s story will flash back to 2022 New York City, where she and her friend group — Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran), Jesse (Chris Lowell), Sid (Suraj Sharma), and Valentina (Francia Raisa) — are in the process of figuring out their identities and love lives in the age of dating apps and endless opportunities for connection.

How I Met Your Father is helmed by This Is Us and Love Victor‘s Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas serve as executive producers alongside original series director Pam Fryman, who will direct the new show’s pilot.

Of course, Cattrall also made headlines when it was announced that she would not reprise her iconic Sex and the City character Samantha Jones in the HBO series’ upcoming reboot, And Just Like That… A feud between Cattrall and other Sex and the City cast and crew members has allegedly been unfurling over the past few decades.

Parker briefly addressed Cattrall’s absence while responding to a comment on her January Instagram post. “Samantha ins’t a part of this story,” she said, replying to a fan’s question about Samantha’s exit. “But she will always be a part of us.”
