‘Don’t Look Up’: First Reactions Tease Oscar Nominations for Ariana Grande, Leonardo DiCaprio

Netflix users, don’t look up any of the first reactions for Don’t Look Up — because we have them all right here, ready for you to read! The first reviews of Adam McKay‘s star-studded satire have started to roll in as the release date for the highly-anticipated flick inches closer, and most folks have praised the movie for sharp wit and stellar performances. Looks like Netflix will be giving its all this awards season, with movies like The Power of the Dog and The Lost Daughter still on the way.

Don’t Look Up will follow two lowly astronomers (Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence) as they attempt to warn the world that an astroid is heading straight towards earth, with complete destruction coming any day now. It’s a concept that might sound familiar: the world is ending, but no one cares enough to do anything. Along with DiCaprio and Lawrence, the stacked roster of actors featured in Don’t Look Up also includes Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Mark Rylance, Jonah Hill, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, and Timothée Chalamet.

“DON’T LOOK UP has some sharp capitalist and politial satire if inconsistent humor,” one first viewer writes. “Leonardo DiCaprio is incredibly great here and gets an explosive Peter Finch in Network moment. Streep, Lawrence and Rylance are all good. Ariana Grande’s song is fucking hilarious.”

As teased above, audiences really raved over DiCaprio’s leading performance in the film, which could hoist him into another Best Actor nomination. “The entire cast is on fire and Leonardo DiCaprio gets to show his comedic genius yet again,” one user shares, “and is such a good actor you forget he’s Leonardo DiCaprio.”

And, making her big re-entry into the acting realm, Ariana Grande‘s has been praised for her song in the movie, “Just Look Up.” Folks are pretty certain she’ll snag her first Oscar nomination for the feat, a win for Arianators all over the world.

“Grande’s role is very brief,” Variety shares, “but it feels almost certain that she will land her first Oscar nom, for original song, for the track, ‘Just Look Up,’ which McKay calls his favorite moment of the movie.”

Don’t Look Up will be available to stream on Netflix on Dec. 24. Scroll up to watch the trailer for the upcoming film.
