Sylvester Stallone to Star in ‘Kansas City’ From Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter at Paramount+

Sylvester Stallone meets Yellowstone in Kansas City, a new Paramount+ series from Taylor Sheridan. The Rocky Oscar winner will make a major move into scripted television, as he’s currently in negotiations to star in and executive produce the series, created by Sheridan and Terence WinterDeadline reports.

The news marks Stallone’s first foray into major TV roles, having guested on a few classics like Police Story and Kojak back in the ’70s. More recently, he was featured in the NBC dramedy This is Us. As for his film roles, Stallone just starred as King Shark in Suicide Squad, and is set to appear in films like Guardians of the Galaxy 3The Expendables 4, and Little America.

Kansas City will bring together the rising TV star Sheridan, whose work on Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown has brought him much acclaim at Paramount, and Winter, creator of Boardwalk Empire and writer on The Sopranos. The series will be produced by 101 Studios, the company behind Sheridan’s universe of series, and MTV Entertainment Studios. Stallone and his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood will also produce.

The drama series will feature a New York City Italian mobster in one of the most fish-out-of-water locations: Kansas City, Missouri. Set in present day, legend Sal (Stallone) faces the “startling task of reestablishing his Italian mafia family to the modernized, straight-shooting town of Kansas City, Missouri. There, Sal encounters surprising and unsuspecting characters who follow him along his unconventional path to power.”

Winter, Sheridan and Stallone will serve as executive producers along with David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari of 101 Studios. Winter will serve as showrunner and a writers’ room is up and running.

“Taylor is a prolific creator because of the multi-dimensional characters he creates and the complex worlds he builds,” David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, told Deadline. “To be able to have the legendary, transcendent Sylvester playing one of these characters is truly a privilege. And on top of that, we have Terence producing the project with us, who is responsible for some of the most captivating, deeply respected television shows in history. We are thrilled that ViacomCBS has partnered with us to help tell this story.”

Currently, Sheridan has two series — Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown — airing new episodes. His Yellowstone prequel, 1883, will debut on Paramount+ later this month. Stay tuned for more information regarding Kansas City.
