On last night’s (December 6) episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon debuted a brand-new pandemic-themed holiday song called “It Was A… (Masked Christmas)” with the help of some famous friends: Ariana Grande and Megan Thee Stallion.

“It’s basically about, like, how last year was just rough on everybody,” Fallon said while introducing the song. “And you know, I just wanted to say it’s going to get better. It really is going to get better, trust me.”

The music video opens with Stallion saying, “Y’all know what time it is. It’s time to get those boosters.”

From there, Fallon and Grande appear doing cozy seasonal activities like wearing sweaters in front of a fireplace and skiing, as they sing the catchy chorus: “It was a masked Christmas, we stayed in the house / We covered our nose, and covered our mouth / But it’s Christmas time / We’ll be in line for the booster.”

On her verse, Stallion embraces a more optimistic vision of this year’s holiday season. “It’s Christmas, gonna make it count / No more quarantine on the couch,” she raps while wearing a nurse costume and holding syringes. “This year, hang that mistletoe / Imma kiss everyone that I know.”

And no, “It Was A… (Masked Christmas)” isn’t just a Tonight Show segment — it’s a standalone Christmas single! Hopefully next year, it won’t be quite so timely.

Check out the full song in the video above. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights on NBC at 11:35/10:35c.
