HBO Max‘s new Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That... is full of familiar faces. From series leads Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) to welcome returning side characters like Bitsy Von Muffling (Julie Halston), And Just Like That… is embracing the SATC nostalgia. However there’s one returning character that might have felt like a deep cut for even the most stalwart Sex and the City fans. Namely Molly Price’s Susan Sharon.

You know, Susan Sharon? The famous…Susan Sharon? So well known to fans of Sex and the City that, er, Carrie and Miranda were confused about what her deal was in the reality of And Just Like That… the show?!? Apparently Carrie and her had a big falling out and Susan Sharon wants to make things right.

So who is Susan Sharon on And Just Like That… and who was Susan Sharon in Sex and the City? Here’s everything you need to know about Susan Sharon…

WHO IS SUSAN SHARON IN AND JUST LIKE THAT, THE SATC REBOOT?

In And Just Like That… Episode 2, a woman named Susan Sharon attends Big’s funeral and immediately stands out when she talks shit during the service. Namely, she whispers that she might be the only one who remembered what a prick he was to Carrie. Fair enough! Big was awful to Carrie. It happened. (But also, it’s his funeral, so maybe wait until afterwards when you can speak ill of the dead to pals over wine?)

After the service, Susan Sharon approaches the grieving Carrie to declare that she’s willing to reconnect. She makes a whole big deal about it, even going so far as to suggest that Carrie did her wrong years ago. It’s very weird and terribly awkward and wildly intense. Hilariously, after Susan Sharon leaves, Miranda looks at Carrie and says, “What happened between you two?” Carrie says, “I have no idea. I was hoping you knew.”

Susan Sharon first appeared in Sex and the City Season 2 Episode 2 “The Awful Truth.” She was a friend of Carrie’s who was married to a bully of a man. After a tense scene, Susan Sharon calls Carrie and asks her single friend’s advice as to whether or not she should leave her husband. Susan Sharon takes Carrie’s tactful non-advice as advice to bolt. By episode’s end, she embarrassing herself out on the town, missing her husband, and resigned to reconnect.

It’s possible that Susan Sharon is still pissed at Carrie for suggesting she leave her husband. But that may not be the bad blood between them. That’s because a bleached blonde Susan Sharon pops up in the opening scene of Sex and the City Season 4 Episode 15 “A Change of a Dress,” (aka the episode where Carrie ends her engagement to Aidan [John Corbett] by a dreamy fountain). Carrie is reluctant to tell Susan Sharon that she’s engaged to Aidan in the cold open, which hints at how not excited she is about getting married.

So why is Susan Sharon back? And what exactly went down between Susan Sharon and Carrie? It could be she’s overblown Carrie’s input into her marriage or we might learn that something bad did happen in later episodes of And Just Like That… Either way, Susan Sharon’s appearance was a fascinating callback to a time early in the Sex and the City run, when Big was a prick. And Susan Sharon’s whole deal is a fun wink at how many people Carrie, Miranda, and the gang interacted with over the years. (And how it’s hard to keep track of folks over time…)
