If you thought your college years were a mess, The Sex Lives of College Girls has some notes. Created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, HBO Max’s latest comedy is just as funny and irreverent as its name implies. We know you’ve already binge-watched Season 1. So when can you expect new episodes?

On that beat, we have you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2.

Will There Be The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2?

It’s officially happening. Shortly before the finale of Season 1, HBO Max renewed the coming-of-age comedy for another season. According to a press release from the streaming service, when the series premiered it consistently ranked among top HBO Max titles. Its release on Thursday, December 2 even saw a 40 percent increase in its viewership since its debut.

“Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble have created and written a show that is full of heart, female friendships, and awkward naked parties,” Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, said in a statement. “We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not. We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next.”

When Will The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 Premiere?

Now that we know for a fact that Season 2 is happening, when can we expect it? The series was first announced in October of 2019. But it wasn’t until May of 2020 that it was confirmed the show would launch in 2021. Based on this timeline, it seems reasonable to conclude that it takes roughly a year to make a new season of this comedy. If COVID doesn’t get in the way, we can likely expect to see Kimberley, Bela, Whitney, and Leighton again in 2022.

How Did Season 1 End? What Could Happen in Season 2?

Season 1 ended with cliffhangers galore, so we’re betting that Season 2 will be all about those. Ready for some spoilers? Because they’re coming in hot.

Let’s start with HBO Max’s resident soccer star, Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott). After a team-wide scandal that ended in the firings of multiple coaches, Whitney managed to ditch her Dalton (James Morosini) problem. She was all ready to run away from her toxic assistant coach and into the arms of the sexy Canaan (Chris Meyer) when who should arrive but Whitney’s senator mother. At first, Whitney lied to Evette (Sherri Shepherd) about the scandal, but eventually she came clean and admitted that she was the one who slept with Dalton. Evette definitely wasn’t happy about that. But through their honesty, this mother and daughter duo finally found some common ground. That’s how you spell “progress.”

You know who else got a happy ending? Bela (Amrit Kaur). After some internal debating, Bela finally told the heads of The Catullan that one of its editors sexually harassed her and another writer. Initially, Eric (Mekki Leeper) didn’t believe the charges against his co-editor and best friend, Ryan (Conor Donnally). But when he came around, he came out swinging, firing Ryan and throwing The Catullan into chaos. Amidst a staff-wide protest, Bela decided to quit because the world of comedy was more Game of Thrones than SNL. But there was a light at the end of this particular tunnel. At the end of “The Truth”, former Catullan writer Evangeline (Sierra Katow) asked Bela to start an all women’s comedy thing with her. Bela also ended the episode by having a nice conversation with Eric. Are there some sparks flying between this life of the party and a certain grumpy Gus? We’re hoping so.

Leighton’s (Reneé Rapp) ending was a bit more of a mixed bag. On the one hand, she stood up against her brother and called him out for cheating on his girlfriend with her roommate. That’s a step in the right direction. On the other hand, Leighton was dumped by her secret girlfriend, Alicia (Midori Francis), because she’s still in the closest. After begging for Alicia to take her back and getting rejected again, Leighton hid in her room crying. That’s when she did the unthinkable and told Kimberley (Pauline Chalamet) that she’s a lesbian. Baby steps, baby girl. Baby steps.

Speaking of Kimberley, she walked away from Season 1 with the most to lose. The good news? Kimberley’s academic probation trial went well. It turns out that telling on Nico’s (Gavin Leatherwood) fraternity for its mass cheating ring was a good move. The bad? Between cheating on a midterm and trying to have sex in her professor’s office, Kimberley ran out of strikes and lost her scholarship. As Kimberley learns that actions have consequences, she’ll be going into Season 2 on the hunt for a spare $23,000 a semester.
