Leonardo DiCaprio “Didn’t Like” Meryl Streep’s Nude Scene In ‘Don’t Look Up’

Viewers can expect to see a new side of Meryl Streep in Adam McKay‘s new Netflix apocalypse comedy Don’t Look Up (in select theaters now, and streaming December 24). The iconic actress plays the eccentric President Orlean, and appears nude in one comic moment of undress. In a new interview with The Guardian, McKay revealed that although the “fearless” Streep used a body double in that scene, star Leonardo DiCaprio bristled against the idea of watching her seemingly bare it all.

“[DiCaprio] just views Meryl as film royalty …. although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film,” McKay said. “He didn’t like seeing her with the lower back tattoo, walking for a second naked. He said to me something like: ‘Do you really need to show that?’ And I was like: ‘It’s President Orlean; it’s not Meryl Streep.'”

But according to McKay, Streep had no problem with her nude scene. “She didn’t even blink,” he added. “She didn’t even bring it up.” Maybe DiCaprio was uncomfortable because he previously played the Oscar winner’s son in the 1996 film Marvin’s Room, but who knows!

Regardless, Don’t Look Up is a pretty wild story on and offscreen. DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence play a pair of scientists who race to warn the world about the impending meteoric apocalypse, seemingly to no avail. DiCaprio previously revealed that he rewrote one of his scenes 15 times to make it suitably bonkers, while Lawrence said she actually got high to play a scene where her character, Kate, is high. Movie magic, am I right?

Don’t Look Up also stars Mark Rylance, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, and Tomer Sisley. Scroll up to check out the official trailer.
