Jason Hitch, a former reality TV star known for his appearance on 90 Day Fiancé, has died of COVID-19 complications. He was 45.
The reality star died on Tuesday (Dec. 14), People reports. He died in a Florida ICU surrounded by his family as he passed. His sister Shannon broke the news to TMZ, also explaining that Hitch was unvaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of his passing.
TLC, the broadcaster of 90 Day Fiancé, shared a statement on Hitch’s passing to People yesterday (Dec. 15).
“We are saddened to hear about the passing of Jason Hitch and send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this time,” they wrote.
Hitch is a Florida native and a U.S. Army veteran who starred in 90 Day Fiancé back in 2014, amidst the hit reality program’s second season. Speaking about his life, his sister, Shannon said he was a “true and honest shooter, a great officer and leader to his men.”
He married Cassia Taraves after she moved to the United States from Brazil. The show followed the couple after Hitch traveled to Curitiba, Brazil in order to help Taraves move to his hometown in Florida, Spring Hill.
“Cassia getting bored here has been on my mind,” Hitch opened up to the confessional cameras back when she moved to the U.S. in 2014, adding that she probably would not enjoy the weather or the local entertainment. “The next 90 days is gonna be tough. I hope that I can fix all that.”
After they were wed, Taraves and Hitch started a mail-order snack business called Gifting Fun. The pair eventually parted ways in 2017, ending things permanently in 2018 when they filed for a divorce.
90 Day Fiancé is currently streaming on Discovery+ and Hulu. Hitch’s episodes sprawl throughout the second season, beginning in Episode 1 and spanning up until the finale, Episode 12, which aired back on Dec. 28, 2014.
