Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Real Housewives of Miami’ on Peacock Likes Big Butts And It Cannot Lie

The Real Housewives of Miami is back as a series on Peacock. With a mix of new and returning cast members, the Bravo series picks up where it left off and takes off in heels as a group of friends compare their relationships, properties, status, and yes, even butts. It’s everything you know and love about Housewives with even more bathing suits and palm trees.

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF MIAMI: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: The camera glides over the water towards the pink/purple/orange sky before cutting to clips of black and white footage from the previous iteration of this show. RHOM originally ran for three seasons on Bravo, and the short montage will remind viewers of the tears, the weddings, and the glimpses of luxury, specifically from the women that are returning to the show now that it’s on Peacock. Then a flash of the bright, blue Miami waters brings us to 2021, as the returning cast members gather to kick off the season, which will consist of 14 episodes, the first two available to stream now and a new one dropping on the streaming platform every Thursday.

The Gist: Season 4 already feels much sleeker and brighter than before (shoutout to all the neon!) just moments in. Alexia Echevarria and Marysol Patton drive together to an outdoor lunch where they are joined by Lisa Hochstein, then Adriana de Moura, and then Larsa Pippen. And while Adriana and Marysol are technically not full-time cast members but “friends of” this season, along with newcomer Kiki Barth, it sure doesn’t feel that way in the first episode. Event planner Guerdy Abraira, Dr. Nicole Martin, and Julia Lemigova (the first LGBTQ Housewives cast member!) also join as full-time cast.

The fact that it’s The Real Housewives of Miami probably doesn’t need too much explaining, but what you should know is that it’s great for Housewives OGs and newbies alike. If you want to watch the three previous seasons of this franchise on Peacock, it’s there for you now to do so. If you want to jump right in, you totally can. It doesn’t take long to catch up, and even when you do, you already know that the friendships will be shifting more than sarongs at the beach.

The first episode gives you all the information you need to know about the returning cast members, including the family members they’ve gained, lost, married, and divorced along the way. We get glimpses into their homes (including Lisa’s incredible closet), their friendships, their current work status, and more. Plus, the first episode gives us all we need to know about the new pals in the group as well.

Our Take: This version of RHOM feels specifically designed to get us through the winter. It is both a comfort watch via the returning cast members and the fact that it’s a Real Housewives show (obviously we’re familiar), but it also feels like just the right amount of exciting new territory.

It’s an interesting time on the Housewives front. The only two series on the air at Bravo now are RHOC and RHOSLC, so RHOM is certainly not a bad option to scratch that itch. It doesn’t feel as though it will be as fascinating as our friends in Salt Lake (uh, is anything right now though?) and the Latin infusion into this particular franchise brings a heat that Southern California does not and can not. So while it may not be immediate appointment viewing, there is certainly enough right away that will keep viewers intrigued.

Sex and Skin: Truly, more than any other Real Housewives installment, ever. It starts with a glimpse at Larsa’s offerings on her OnlyFans account, though she claims she’s making $10K a day from it, so who’s laughing now? Well, not the other women who for some reason continue to bring it up — some because they want to get in on the cash grab, others because they want to judge/shame/question what she’s actually doing on there to make all that money.

The first episode also includes a pool party, automatically making this the Housewives show with the most skin. Everyone is in bathing suits! Adrianna’s showing off her boob job! She’s commenting that “The astronauts can see it from the planet moon,” when it comes to repeated close-ups of Larsa’s butt in her rope dress that’s hardly a cover-up. There’s a whole lot of discussion and a whole lot of showcasing Larsa’s body on the first episode, but hey, if we all looked like that, we’d be doing the same damn thing.

Parting Shot: In the last scene of the episode, Marysol and Alexia discuss the latter’s late husband Herman, and if she wants to meet the man with whom he was maybe having an affair. The two pull up the mystery man’s Instagram page, and even though it’s private, they are able to zoom in on a photo enough to shriek, “He has a huge penis!” Safe to say, we’ll be tuning in for more.

Sleeper Star: At first it seemed as though new cast member and event planner Guerdy might be the most interesting of the new additions — after all, she has a hot firefighter husband. But then we meet Julia’s spouse, who just so happens to be tennis great Martina Navratilova. Also, the couple has a farm house where they milk goats, so, yeah, we’ll definitely be paying attention to them.

Most Pilot-y Line: “I’m kinda trying to like, stay low profile,” Larsa tells the group during their first catch-up lunch. LOL. Ok, girl. We’re five minutes into a new season of Real Housewives where you are a main cast member, so, sure! But, understanding the assignment, Adriana responds, “Oh yeah, I heard some stuff on the news.” In her interview she goes on to explain, “Larsa left Miami but the minute the Kardashians shunned her out now she’s back in the group and trying to regain our friendship and trust. There’s mystery there and I’m curious.” Try not to be hooked! Larsa of course follows up by asking her if Adriana’s still in touch with her ex-husband Frederic, and somehow the lunch remains civil, but the breadcrumbs on the way to drama’s house are certainly being dropped.

Our Call: Stream It. I’m not sure where this show is going, but I’m certainly going to watch and find out.
