Nope, you’re not dreaming: The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth installment of the classic sci-fi series, will arrive to the big and small screen just in time for the holiday season.

From what we can glean from the film’s mysterious trailers, the premise of Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections seems to surround Neo (Keanu Reeves), who is back to his pre-red pill life as Thomas Anderson, totally oblivious to the fact that he is in the Matrix. Without any memory of the events of the previous three films, glimpses of his old life begin to resurface when he stops taking the blue pills prescribed by his psychiatrist (Neil Patrick Harris).

Some familiar faces help this process along, including love interest Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), who appears to be similar state of unawareness, and a seemingly younger Morpheus played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (who takes over from Laurence Fishburne). New additions including gunslinger Bugs (Jessica Henwick) further open Neo’s eyes to the truth, while Jonathan Groff‘s Agent Smith-like antagonist works to keep him in the dark.

HOW TO WATCH THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS ON STREAMING:

HBO Max subscribers that are signed up for the Ad-Free plan (which costs $14.99/month or $149.99/year) can watch the film on the exact same day it releases in theaters, December 22. The streaming service can be accessed via computer as well as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Playstation 4, Samsung TV, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

For those that aren’t yet subscribers, HBO Max is offering a new deal for anyone that signs up before The Matrix 4‘s December 22 premiere date. If they use the code BEANIE2021, new users can get four months of the ad-free plan for $49.99, a discount of almost $10. (After the first four months, new users will go back to paying the usual $14.99 per month.) While supplies last, anyone that signs up before December 22 will also get a The Matrix Resurrections limited-edition beanie.

WHAT TIME WILL THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS BE ON HBO MAX?

UPDATE (12/21/21 at 5:30pm): HBO is promoting The Matrix Resurrections on its homepage with the banner you see below, which states the film will be available to watch tonight at midnight PT (which is 3 a.m. ET).

However, this time isn’t set in stone. In October, HBO Max released Denis Villeneuve’s Dune earlier than expected: 6 p.m. ET, or 3 p.m. PT the evening before its scheduled release day in order to align with the opening night screenings in theaters. The Matrix 4 is definitely on a similar blockbuster level as Dune, so an early release isn’t totally out of the question. We’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more information.

HOW LONG WILL THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS BE AVAILABLE TO STREAM ON HBO MAX?

Following HBO Max’s same day premiere plan, subscribers can stream The Matrix 4 for 31 days following its release, at no extra cost. That means users can rewatch the film to their heart’s content until January 22, 2022.
