New on Netflix December 24: Don’t Look Up

Jennifer Lawrence is making her return to the big screen in Don’t Look Up, the sci-fi black comedy film that is new on Netflix this weekend. Lawrence plays Kate Dibiasky, an astronomy grad student who, alongside her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), makes an astonishing discovery: a massive comet is on a direct collision course with Earth. The two embark on a giant media tour to warn mankind of this incoming threat. But the problem — other than the world-ending comet? Nobody seems to care. Also starring Hollywood A-listers Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Mark Rylance, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Chris Evans, and Ariana Grande, Don’t Look Up is a cinematic spectacle that you will not want to miss. This animated film tells the story of the Madrigal family living deep in the mountains of Colombia. But while she is the only non-magical member of the family, it becomes up to her to save her magical world when it suddenly comes under threat. Featuring music from Hamilton creator and Tick…Tick…Boom! director Lin-Manuel Miranda, Encanto is the perfect family film to turn on when opening gifts in front of the tree this weekend.
