The Drag Race franchise ain’t slowing down for nobody! It seems like it should be hard to outperform 2021, a year that served 52 nonstop weeks of Drag Race, but 2022 seems more than ready to turn the party. RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 hits the floor in a few days, and that eleganza will be followed by lineup after lineup of killer queens from across the globe.
Not only are we most likely getting new seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, and Canada’s Drag Race in 2022 (among many, may others) — we’re also getting at least three brand new spinoffs. France and the Philippines are getting their own Drag Race competitions, and then there’s RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Versus the World. Yep, the highly-anticipated international All Stars season is coming soon!
The only catch is… we don’t actually know a lot about Drag Race’s 2022 slate. So, how does one write a guide to Drag Race when no premiere dates have been announced? By using math and precedent, honey! While we don’t know when all of the returning series will premiere, we do know when they opened up auditions. And, going off of the past few years, we know on average how long it takes to turn around a season between casting and premiere. With all that data in mind, we can wildly speculate when new seasons of which shows will premiere when. And of course we will update this article once actual information is ruvealed.
Winter

Season 2 took the Drag Race fandom completely by surprise when the season gave us the hands down best talent/variety show in the franchise’s herstory. From that moment on, this season made España the international spinoff to watch.

After stunning us with that international all stars season, 2022 gives us another long-awaited first with the first-ever all-winners season. This time around, though, no one’s going home — and the queens love that twist.

World of Wonder kicks off summer with the debut season of Drag Race France. The series will be hosted by Nicky Doll (RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12), and Daphné Bürki and Kiddy Smile join her on the judges’ panel.

Canada’s Drag Race is back in its original summer slot for Season 3. Brooke Lynn Hytes returns as host and judge, joined once again by Brad Goreski and Traci Melchor.

If only cloning was a reality! While Brooke Lynn Hytes, Supremme de Luxe, and whichever queens end up hosting Drag Race France and Philippines can all film their seasons simultaneously, there’s only one RuPaul. That means that international series hosted by the one and only Ru tend to take just over a year to turn around after they open casting. Down Under and UK announced new seasons in September and October 2021, respectively, which indicates that we won’t see them until much later in the year.

After a long wait, Drag Race Thailand will return for Season 3 sometime this year; it was announced by the VP of the show’s production company last summer. The fates of Drag Race Holland and Drag Race Italia, however, are still TBA. Both shows have yet to announce new seasons and start casting, so it’s unclear what timetable they’re on. That doesn’t mean neither show will release new seasons this year. Since those spinoffs are hosted by international queens Fred van Leer and Priscilla, they could theoretically announce new seasons now and have them ready to roll out on WOW Presents Plus by late summer.
And even if those shows take a break, you should not worry. There’s gonna be lots of Drag Race in 2022!
