Will ‘The 355’ Be on HBO Max or Netflix? Where to Watch The Jessica Chastain Movie

Would you watch a movie starring Jessica Chastain as a badass spy? What if I told you that movie also starred Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Fan Bingbing as fellow badass spies?

The answer to both questions is obviously an enthusiastic “Yes!” That’s really all you need to know about The 355, the new spy thriller starring all of the above, from director Simon Kinberg, who also co-wrote the script with Theresa Rebeck. The 355 opens in theaters this weekend, meaning you can ring in the new year with some beautiful, competent women.

That said, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the United States, it’s looking less and less likely that 2022 is going to be the big return to theaters that Hollywood was hoping for. Luckily for audiences wary of movie theaters, they won’t have to wait long to stream films like The 355 at home.

Read on to find out where to watch The 355, and when to expect The 355 on streaming.

WHERE TO WATCH THE 355:

For now, the only way to watch The 355 is to go to a movie theater. The 355 will open in theaters in the U.S on January 7, 2022. You can find tickets at a theater near you here.

After the movie’s theatrical run, you will be able to stream The 355 on Peacock, the NBC Universal streaming service. You’ll also be able to rent The 355 on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, iTunes, YouTube, Google Play, and more.

WILL THE 355 BE ON HBO MAX?

No. The 355 is a Universal Pictures movie, not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore will not be streaming on HBO Max when it opens in theaters. More than that, HBO Max will no longer be streaming theatrical movies in 2022. Last year, Warner Media opted to simultaneously release its theatrical slate on streaming, meaning HBO Max subscribers could watch movies like Matrix Resurrections at home. This year, however, Warner Bros. theatrical movies will have a 45-day theaters-only run before moving to HBO Max.

IS THE 355 ON NETFLIX?

No. The 355 is not on Netflix, and, because it’s going to Peacock, it likely will not be on Netflix any time soon. Sorry!

WHEN WILL THE 355 BE STREAMING? WHEN WILL THE 355 BE ON PEACOCK?

While there is not an official Peacock release date for The 355, we can expect The 355 to be on the streaming service after 45 days in theaters. Therefore, you should see The 355 on Peacock around the last week of February 2022. This is because, starting with the 2022 film slate, Universal movies will come to Peacock as soon as 45 days after opening in theaters.

You will also be able to rent The 355 on PVOD, but it’s less clear when that will be. Previously, Universal movies had been released on digital after 17 days in theaters, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The studio has not been following that schedule as consistently as it previously had been—the recent Universal movies Dear Evan Hansen and No Time To Die both landed on VOD about one month after opening in theaters. If The 355 follows a similar pattern, you can expect to be able to rent the movie for $20 on PVOD in early February 2022.

That said, other Universal movies like the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect went to digital after just two weeks in theaters. Still, other Universal movies, like the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Old, took over two months to release on digital.

All this is to say: We don’t know when The 355 will be on VOD. Stay tuned for more information.
