The Shadow and Bone universe is about to get bigger. Netflix has officially added four actors to its ensemble for Season 2 (which starts production today), and promoted three Season 1 actors to series regular roles.

New cast members include Patrick Gibson as Ravkan prince Nikolai Lantsov; Anna Leong Brophy and Lewis Tan as Tamar Kir-Bataar and Tolya Yul-Bataar, two Grisha runaways working for enigmatic privateer Sturmhond; and Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendricks, which is likely an alias for Six of Crows character Wylan Van Eck.

Meanwhile, actors Danielle Galligan (who plays Nina Zenik), Daisy Head (Genya Safin), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar) have been promoted to series regulars. They join fellow returning cast members Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, and Kit Young.

Written and executive produced by co-showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind, Shadow and Bone adapts both the Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows books, two series that take place in author Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse. Season 2 is set to follow orphan-turned-powerful Grisha Alina Starkov (Mei Li), who’s forced to go on the run after the mysterious General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) reveals his plans to use her ability to summon sunlight for his own evil ends. It will likely be based on Siege and Storm (the second book in the Shadow and Bone series) and continue to incorporate some Six of Crows storylines.

Season 2 directors include Bola Ogun, Laura Belsey, Karen Gaviola, and Mairzee Almas. Shadow and Bone is executive produced by Shawn Levy, Josh Barry, Dan LEvine, and Dan Cohen.
