Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell Are Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic in First Look at Peacock’s ‘Joe vs. Carole’

If you thought the Tiger King extended universe was finished, think again. Today, Peacock released the first trailer for its upcoming show Joe vs. Carole. Based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic (aka the show’s original title), the eight-episode limited series will reimagine the infamous feud between big cat owners Joe Exotic (played by John Cameron Mitchell) and Carole Baskin (played by Kate McKinnon), which ultimately led to Joe being imprisoned for plotting to kill his rival.

The two became media sensations after appearing at the center of the wildly popular Netflix docuseries Tiger King, which introduced viewers to gay polygamist and tiger wrangler Joe, as well as wildlife rights activist Carole, who was accused of feeding her missing husband to a tiger.

But as the Joe vs. Carole trailer puts it: “The story you know was only half the tale.” Cut to Joe and Carole gearing up for war from their prospective big cat home bases. “It’s war,” Carole tells her current (and very much alive) husband Howard (Kyle MacLachlan).

Other cast members include Brian Van Holt as zoo employee John Reinke, Sam Keeley as Joe’s husband John Finlay, Nat Wolf as Joe’s husband Travis Maldonado, Marlo Kelly as Carole’s daughter Jackie Murdock, William Fichtner as reality TV producer Rick Kirkham, and Dean Winters as zoo owner Jeff Lowe.

Joe vs. Carole was created, written, and executive-produced by Etan Frankel under his deal with UCP, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. McKinnon will also serve as an executive producer alongside Alex Katsnelson and Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, and Aaron Hart.

All eight episodes of Joe vs. Carole premiere Thursday, March 3, on Peacock. Scroll up to watch the official trailer.
